Job Description Summary:

The Division of University Advancement (UA) is seeking an Associate Director of Development, Elliott School of International Affairs ( ESIA). ESIA is highly ranked in international affairs and one of the largest school of international relations in the U.S. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations, ESIA.

The Associate Director of Development, ESIA plays a critical role in developing meaningful connections with alumni, parents, and friends of the school that will result in stronger engagement and philanthropic support (outright and planned gifts).

This position partners with deans, faculty, and central and school based advancement staff to meet fundraising goals in support of philanthropic priorities.

The Associate Director of Development, ESIA manages a pool of approximately 150 top tier major gift prospects around the country and develops strategies to move them across the donor continuum. The Associate Director of Development, ESIA is well versed in Elliott School/university programs and initiatives to align prospects' interests and present proposals as appropriate. The Associate Director of Development, ESIA is expected to be enthusiastic and work well in a fast-paced team environment. For more information about the Elliott School: http://elliott.gwu.edu/.

This position will conduct an average of 12-15 prospect visits monthly and document- comprehensively and in a timely fashion - these are discovery/cultivation/solicitation/stewardship visits. The Associate Director of Development, ESIA will work closely with prospect research and university advancement colleagues in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and tracking major gift prospects. This role will acquire an extensive knowledge of the school's and GW's programs and projects to match with prospect interest, while collaborating with faculty and staff in developing topic-specific proposals.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned; the omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in fundraising (preferably with major gifts or face-to-face donor contact), public relations, or marketing (experience in higher education fundraising preferred).
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.


Hiring Range $80,927.47 - $111,231.23
