About the Department
Georgia State offers associate degrees at Perimeter College at five campuses (Alpharetta, Clarkston, Decatur, Dunwoody, Newton) and Online. Perimeter College educates over 18,000 students. These students are supported by 700+ faculty (full-time and part-time) and 200+ staff focused on their academic success. In some of Perimeter's academic pathways- including business administration, communications, and criminal justice - students may pursue their associate degrees fully online. Most pathways enable students to take some classes online, and hybrid courses - which allow students to experience online learning combined with face-to-face classroom support - are also available.
Position Description
The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs ( ADAA) reports directly to the Dean and plays a pivotal role in providing leadership and management for the academic programs and administrative functions of Perimeter College. This role is charged with fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement by managing and optimizing processes, policies, and procedures related broadly to academic affairs. The ADAA will ensure the quality and integrity of academic offerings and initiatives, provide oversight of assessment and accreditation processes, and facilitate new program development through the approval process. The individual in this position will collaborate with other administrators, faculty, and staff to advance the college's mission and strategic goals. Additionally, the ADAA is a 12-month, faculty ranked administrative position.
Required Experience

  • Eligible for tenured full professor in an academic discipline offered at the college.
  • Minimum of six years' progressively responsible administrative experience in academic leadership in a public institution of higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience with academic program development and curriculum approval.
  • Broad knowledge of institutional and/or program accreditation standards and best practices in teaching and learning for multiple modalities.
  • Direct supervision of faculty and staff.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with departmental, college, and institutional faculty and staff.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, analytical, and problem-solving skills.


Required Education
Doctoral or terminal degree from an accredited college or university in a discipline offered at Perimeter College is required
Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • A minimum of seven to ten years of progressively responsible administrative experience at the department level or higher position in a college or university environment.
  • Experience with departmental budgeting of state general operating funds.
  • Experience with institutional accreditation and/or specialized program accreditation.
  • Experience with best practices in course and program assessment and program review.
  • Demonstrated experience with initiating, leading, and managing change.
  • Understanding of the mission of two-year colleges, student demographics, and challenges.
  • Experience working in a multi-campus environment.

  • Understanding of the mission and emerging issues for two-year colleges.
  • Knowledge of academic program development and faculty governance.
  • Understanding of best practices in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of different modalities and best practices regarding student success strategies.
  • Ability to nurture and promote a collegial environment encouraging the scholarly exchange of ideas and initiatives as it relates to the scholarship of teaching.
  • Knowledge of course and program assessment, program review, and relevant institutional and specialized accreditation requirements.
  • Ability to initiate, manage, and lead change.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively and in accordance with state policies and procedures.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • As a member of the Dean's Cabinet, advancing the mission and strategic goals.
  • Provide oversight of academic initiatives and other relevant units within academic affairs.
  • Manage budgetary responsibilities related to academic programs and resources.
  • Direct the portfolio of the college's associate degree programs, certificates, certifications, or other alternative credentials.
  • Assist with development of certificates, micro-credentials, and other alternative credentials.
  • Work with department chairs and faculty to develop new and revise academic pathways to labor market needs and Atlanta campus for seamless transition.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures.
  • Lead academic pathway review and monitor program improvements.
  • Manage academic proposals and curriculum changes through the approval process.
  • Ensure program adherence to accreditation and institutional standards including preparing reports and providing documentation.
  • Coordinate academic program assessment and review of pathways in collaboration with department chairs.
  • Manage the Student STAR Awards Ceremony from the nomination process to the reception.
  • Contribute to the college's strategic planning process. Participate in setting academic priorities and objectives in alignment with the college's mission and vision.
  • Provide support as needed with departmental and college meetings/events, faculty orientations, leadership academy, business meetings, college executive committee meetings, academic year kick-off, university-wide academic initiatives (QEP, IMPACTS, etc.), and other activities/meetings as requested.
  • In collaboration with Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, develop and maintain academic policies and procedures and assist with faculty development day activities.
  • Partner with faculty to develop work-based learning experiences and to integrate AI in courses and/or programs.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners within the College and across the institution.
  • Partner with the dean and the assistant/associate deans to foster collaborative and interdisciplinary teaching and research scholarship with colleagues within the college and across the university.
  • Respond to student and faculty questions about the academic appeals process.
  • Collaborate with student engagement, student success, and other campus partners to enhance student retention and success.
  • Address academic issues and concerns and develop strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Serve as the Dean's designee as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.
