Job Summary

The UCSF Fresno Standardized Patient (SP) Program located within the Clinical Skills & Simulation Center (CSSC) is looking for a Health Education Standardized Patient Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in evidence-based training methods, SP best-practices, and healthcare education. The SP Coordinator willassist in the coordination of hiringof standardized patients and will train standardized patient actors to portray healthcare patients in a wide variety of simulation learning activities, including high-stakes clinical skills assessments, formative learning experiences, classroom demonstrations, accurately complete checklists that are used to assess healthcare learners' clinical skills such as communication, physical exam maneuvers, and offer verbal and written feedback to healthcare learners that is specific, actionable, and supportive. The SP Coordinator oversees confidentiality and the administration and editing of all SP case materials and programming within SimCapture or current learning management and assessment application. The incumbent will also provide coordination of curricular and non curricular student outreach activities that require the use of SPs.

The Health Education Standardized Patient Coordinator will be responsible for designing, leading, evaluating and improving SP training sessions. They will track SP training and experience, ensuring all SPs complete required training. The incumbent will monitor, educate, and coach SPs to support them in developing their skills to ensure consistency of role portrayal, accuracy of checklists, appropriateness of feedback to learners, etc. Coordinator will provide assistance in the recruitment of a cohort of Performance Artists necessary to work as SPs and to cast them in appropriate roles, considering level of training, experience, etc. Will collaborate with faculty and staff to develop, implement, evaluate, and improve complex SP events including clinical practice exams and interdisciplinary events. Help develop and maintain SP case materials, assessment tools, and other event materials. Coordinate all activities associated with ongoing administration of SP events. Exemplify an attitude and demeanor consistent with maintaining a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment. Review and update Clinical Skills & Simulation Center Scheduling Policy for undergraduate students or other trainees. Assist learners with required outreach activities and projects involving clinical skills, SPs or off-site activities which may require occasional weekend flexibility for shifts. The incumbent will work closely with the Graduate Medical Education programs and Undergraduate Medical Education including the San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education (PRIME) for special events and required clinical practice exams.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $154,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Fresno Clinical Skills & Simulation Center provides simulation-based training for graduate and undergraduate medical student education programs. Simulation is defined as an educational modality with which the learner physically interacts to mimic an aspect of clinical care for the purpose of teaching or assessment. Activities at the center range from those that use actors (standardized patients), to activities with partial task trainers and/or mannequins. UCSF Fresno Clinical Skills & Simulation Center operates under the Information Technology Services Department with primary staff to handle the technology needs while the Health Education SP Coordinator will manage all aspects of the SP program.

The UCSF Fresno Clinical Skills & Simulation Center supports UCSF Fresno's educational mission by creating opportunities for teaching, learning, and assessment using simulation as an educational strategy. The center provides learning opportunities across the continuum of health professions education.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum 3+ years directly relevant experience
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening,critical thinking, and providing direction to others
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines
  • Knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience
  • Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include data collecting and analysis of data across databases and systems

  • Master's degree in related area
  • Education and experience in medical simulation, healthcare, education, acting & improvisation, and program coordination
