What to Expect

Regulatory product compliance is a critical business function and a rapidly expanding sector. The role facilitates global market access by leveraging product and process legislation. Regulatory complexity is increasing and continuously evolving with many local, national and international codes, standards and regulations.

The Tesla Energy Compliance team is looking for a Sr. Regulatory Compliance Engineer to support the global deployment of grid interactive energy storage system, micro-grid inverters and V2G system.

In this role you'll be responsible for grid interoperability certifications, ranging from identifying market entry requirements through design consultancy, testing, certification and permitting. Participating in code development groups to advance industry standards while removing technical barriers to facilitate the deployment of innovative product technologies.


What You'll Do
  • Run test cases on Tesla energy products for grid interoperability compliance. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot the EUT and prepare alternative solutions, negotiate testing scope and pass/fail criteria with NRTLs while meeting project timeline and safe work practices
  • Setup test configuration hardware and firmware, post process test results and submit results to certification body
  • Propose and implement process improvement opportunities to facilitate testing and certification process
  • Create configuration file for each country/utility to meet grid compliance requirements
  • Write Compliance Product Design Requirements (CPDR) summarizing grid and V2G compliance requirements for design team to achieve compliance
  • Support product registrations and permitting applications
  • Consultant to engineering design teams
  • Research new market entry requirements
  • Represent Tesla on code and committee groups to aid in renewable code advancement and feed upcoming requirements to internal stakeholders for early adoption
  • Track codes, standards and regulatory changes and forward plan,Work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance (Plan and manage NRTLs)

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in power converter and/or energy storage systems compliance testing and/or certification
  • Experienced in grid interoperability and V2G standards, e.g.
    UL 1741 SA/SB, UL 3141, IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, EN 50549-1, EN 50549-2, G99, G100, AS 4777.2, VDE 4105, VDE 4100, VDE 0124, VDE 4110, VDE 4120, VDE 4130, CEI 0-21, C10/11, TOR Erzeuger, UL 9741, UL 1741 SC, SAE J3072, EU RFG, IEC 61851-1, ISO 15118-20

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of standards,Strong lab/test/data analysis/troubleshooting/reporting skills
  • Proven track record in power converter and/or energy storage system product certifications
  • Highly experienced in global grid interoperability codes and standards,High voltage/power experience
  • Experience with environmental chamber, LabVIEW, Yokogawa, Dewetron or other data acquisition and analyzer tools, grid simulator, RLC load bank and communication interfaces

    Expected Compensation
    $68,000 - $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
