The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Molecular Labs Research and Early Development (RED)

Department Summary

You will be joining a team of the Research and Early Development chapter area in the broader Roche Diagnostic organization to drive the discovery and development of innovative solutions that have real impact on people's lives. Collaborating with the team members with diverse backgrounds, you will work hands-on in developing the novel molecular diagnostic applications at point-of-care.

This internship position is located in Pleasanton, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Contribute to the advancement of a next-generation point-of-care diagnostic platform.

  • Support development and integration of core assay and workflow components.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive platform performance.

  • Perform data analysis, generate reports, and present laboratory results to local and project teams.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education
You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required majors: Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or related field.

Required skills

  • Foundational knowledge in molecular biology or diagnostic assay development.

  • Proficiency with laboratory techniques and standard workplace software.

  • Quick learner with the ability to apply new techniques in a practical setting.

  • Able to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively with team members.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Proficiency with molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, and CRISPR-based reactions.

  • Hands-on experience with point-of-care or in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assays.

  • Knowledge of nucleic acid sample preparation and enrichment strategies.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to experimental detail.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Alignment with team culture and values, including integrity, curiosity, and initiative.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $46.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
