Vaco has partnered with a client in the legal industry in Chicago to fill a Legal Billing Specialist position. This role requires two years of accounting or billing experience - preferably in the legal industry. Job type:full time Pay:$32.97/hour - $41.21/hour (based on experience, education, and skill level) Expected hours:38-40 hours per week Physical setting:office Schedule:Monday to Friday Experience:At least one year of general accounting or billing experience; legal billing and electronic billing experience strongly preferred Work location:In office for first 90 days; then hybrid schedule This position willsupport billing and revenue operations. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and processing of client invoices in accordance with client billing guidelines, attorney direction, and established internal policies. The Legal Billing Specialist collaborates closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and accounting team members to ensure compliant and efficient billing practices. The ideal candidate will have prior accounting or billing experience, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and effective communication abilities. This position requires professionalism, responsiveness, and the ability to proactively engage with attorneys and support staff. Responsibilities include preparing and processing prebills; interpreting and applying billing instructions; ensuring compliance with client guidelines, fee agreements, and internal policies; submitting invoices accurately and on time, including electronic billing; maintaining billing data within the accounting system; researching and resolving billing discrepancies; and responding to billing and payment inquiries. The role also requires maintaining confidentiality and participating in training to enhance billing expertise. Qualifications include knowledge of electronic billing systems, vendor requirements, and LEDES file formats; strong written and verbal communication skills; high attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive environment; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; and comfort working in a hybrid environment using Zoom. A minimum of two years of accounting or billing experience is required. Experience in a law firm or professional services environment and familiarity with legal billing systems such as SurePoint or Aderant are preferred.
