Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Cardiac Sonographer in our Cardiac Non-Invasive Department.
In this role, the successful Senior Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for independently performing a full range of advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures, including transthoracic echocardiograms, treadmill and pharmacological stress echocardiograms, studies utilizing ultrasound-enhancing agents, and agitated saline contrast studies. This role ensures high-quality imaging that adheres to NYU protocols and Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards.
Job Responsibilities:
Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of NYU Langone Health policies, procedures, and protocols, incorporating them into daily practice.
- Performs a full spectrum of cardiac ultrasound studies, including:
- Transthoracic echocardiograms
- Treadmill stress echocardiograms
- Pharmacological stress echocardiograms
- Studies utilizing ultrasound-enhancing agents
- Agitated saline (bubble) studies
- Ensures all studies are completed in compliance with NYU and IAC standards and protocols.
- Provides compassionate, patient-centered care by introducing oneself, verifying patient identity (ID bracelet or verbal confirmation), explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring patient privacy throughout the process.
- Generates preliminary reports upon scan completion and accurately documents findings according to department protocols. Maintains detailed patient records and applies sound clinical judgment to evaluate scan adequacy.
- Operates and maintains highly specialized ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic studies.
- Immediately notifies medical staff of critical or abnormal findings requiring urgent attention.
- Reviews and compares current studies with previous echocardiograms to identify any clinical changes or progression.
- Assists in maintaining IAC accreditation by preparing and submitting required documentation and studies to management.
- Manages workload efficiently, completing assignments within expected timeframes.
- Actively involved in educating Junior staff and students during clinical rotation
- Performs additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a Associate's degree in a related field and completion of an accredited program in cardiac ultrasound or equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDSC) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Must maintain active registry status. Must be a Cardiac Sonographer for at least five years and if internal, must be in good standing.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $113,149.78 - $124,385.78 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
