Location



  • The Policy Intern will work during the Spring Semester in 2026 (January-May, specific dates are flexible), approximately 10 hours/week.
  • This role will be hybrid. Some in-office time will be expected in our Minneapolis office.



Join Our Policy Team

Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) seeks a Policy Intern to work as a part of the Policy Team, supporting the team's efforts and initiatives at the Minnesota Legislature, Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, and Minnesota Department of Commerce. CEE is looking for a candidate with strong interest in regulatory and legislative energy policy, ability to work with diverse stakeholders and groups, demonstrated quantitative reasoning experience, attention to detail, and strong writing skills. Our ideal candidate will have a desire to work for a mission-driven organization and work collaboratively on a small, but very active policy team.

Responsibilities



  • Policy activities as directed by policy staff, including:


    • Tracking, reading, and summarizing relevant legislative bills
    • Tracking, reading, and summarizing relevant regulatory filings from utilities, state agencies, clean energy groups, and other parties.
    • Identifying, tracking, and notifying staff to proceedings within their purview


  • Researching and analyzing subjects as needed in support of policy activities
  • Administrative support (preparing for meetings, taking notes, etc.)
  • Attending legislative, regulatory, and stakeholder meetings and proceedings as needed in support of policy staff
  • Other duties as assigned



Skills & Knowledge We Are Looking For



  • At least two years of undergraduate experience, graduate experience welcome
  • Demonstrated ability in quantitative analysis
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to concisely and effectively summarize documents and information
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively as a member of a team
  • Ability to attend meetings in person on occasion depending on intern's schedule
  • Interest in the energy efficiency industry and energy policy
  • Desire to work for a mission-driven, non-profit organization



Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with/knowledge of regulatory and legislative energy policy



Compensation

$19.00-$21.00/hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
