The Job Accommodation Network at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Program Assistant III. About the Opportunity The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is the premiere workplace accommodation program of the US Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP). This position will provide support on a new artificial intelligence (AI) system currently under development to improve the efficiency of JAN activities and improve the provision of JAN customer services, as specified in the current Statement of Work. It also will continue to provide support for this new feature throughout upcoming grant operations to ensure that newly developed materials are "translated" into appropriate format for use by the AI Assistant. It also will be responsible for ongoing testing of the AI system to ensure appropriate operation. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. What You'll Do
- This position will work closely with the Director on a new AI feature to the Ask JAN.org website to: (1) translate current website materials from an employer's perspective to the perspective of a disabled individual, (2) develop new materials for inclusion into the AI Assistant, (3) work in collaboration with other JAN personnel to develop basic scripts providing appropriate responses to inquiries received by the AI website feature currently under development, and (4) conduct tests of the AI system to ensure appropriateness of responses based solely on JAN materials. Specifically, this position will:
- Translate existing JAN website materials from their current employer perspective to be appropriate for use by people with disabilities.
- Ensure that all references to "employee" are removed and individual-appropriate language be used.
- Ensure readability of all text for use by a general audience.
- Ensure that language used is clear and concise.
- Generate new materials for use by the AI system, beginning with approximately 200 additional disability pages using the already existing materials as the working template. As new materials are developed for use on the JAN website, make necessary modifications to the text to be appropriate for use with the AI system and generate new metadata templates to allow the new information to be ingested by the AI system.
- Work with the Director and other JAN personnel to prioritize the demand for each disability.
- Obtain needed information from JAN personnel on the appropriate consulting team for inclusion with each specific disability.
- Ensure the material adheres to the developed template and is appropriate for AI ingestion via metadata controls.
- Ensure materials are individual-centric.
Ensure readability for general audience. - Ensure that language used is clear and concise.
- Using other already-existing website materials, generate a response set for specific inquiries. Continue to use newly developed website materials to update existing responses or to generate new responses, as needed.
- Work with Director and other JAN personnel to develop questions typically asked by individuals.
- Using already existing materials, develop appropriate responses to each inquiry.
- Work in collaboration with other JAN website personnel to maintain and update various resources (e.g., vendors and organizations databases) to ensure that information provided by the JAN AI Assistant is accurate and current.
- Serve as an AI Assistant tester by entering various inquiries into the AI system. Work with other team members to determine appropriateness of responses generated. This task will be ongoing throughout operations of the AI Assistant to ensure continued appropriate operation of the AI Assistant and the accuracy of information provided to customers.
Pay Grade: 15
Qualifications
- Associate's degree required. Specific field of study is not necessarily pertinent, but more to demonstrate the ability to generate documents using multiple sources and good communication skills.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
- Solving complex problems.
- Working and communicating with a broad range of individuals of various skill and ability levels.
- Working in an IT development and testing environment.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team of diverse skill levels and expertise.
- Proven skills in the operation of a PC and in particular MS WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint. Good typing skills are required.
- Excellent English skills.
- Prior experience involving people with disabilities would be a plus.
