POSITION SUMMARY: The Divisional Process Engineer will direct, coordinate and exercise functional authority for planning, organizing, control, integration and completion of process engineering projects within area of responsibility. The Process Engineer will provide technical support to plant personnel on new and existing processes and will be a resource for information for the design and installation of all types of process equipment applicable to the lime and hydrate manufacturing processes. Process Engineer will lead the productivity function for the plant including technical aspects of process control, pyro-processing operations, efficiency, waste reduction and other areas as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Provide technical assistance in solving equipment and process problems.

  • Work with multifunctional improvement team - plants, divisional, and corporate as needed.
  • Conduct process audits including heat and mass balance measurements and calculations to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct studies on raw materials and their processing to determine and evaluate potential improvements and impact on quality and efficiency.
  • Understand and lead rigorous statistical analysis of process data.
  • Work closely with all plant personnel to ensure instrumentation standards are current and implemented correctly using the best control strategies.
  • Provide technical training depending on the requirements of the plants.

Plan and assist in capital expansions, machine and equipment replacement, and changes in technology and general process improvements.

  • Develop Capex Requests for new improvement projects.
  • Perform process analysis / review of proposed projects.
  • Participate during commissioning and trials.

Function as a technical advisor to the plants.

  • Formulate and present technical training.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures to ensure improvements are sustained.
  • Provide assistance and guidance in safety design and practices.
  • Support plant outages to overcome refractory and process difficulties.

Lead optimization of process rate, efficiency and waste reduction to achieve and/or exceed budgeted goals and objectives

  • Collaboration with the production team
  • Identification of process/production limitations, sources of waste and other inefficiencies in the process

Perform other duties as assigned

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Positive and proactive attitude. Ability to perform with minimal supervision on multiple projects in a continuous manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Technical aptitude and analytical skills.
  • Detail, process and result oriented with strong problem resolution abilities.
  • Effectively work with all levels of organization. Able and willing to spend the majority of time in the plant coaching operators and supervisors.
  • Operating knowledge of preheater and long rotary kilns, Maerz kilns, bowl and ball mills, direct and indirect firing systems, crushing/sizing, hydrators.
  • Knowledgeable in all phases of process evaluation and equipment application.
  • Physically able to access all areas required for testing of the process and emissions points, including confined spaces, ductwork and vent stacks.
  • Ability to work long hours, weekends, and any shift and answer emergency calls as needed.
  • Excellent decision-making skills regarding safety.
  • Must possess excellent human relations skills in dealing with employees, on all different levels.
  • Must be willing to be hands-on and not afraid to perform other work assigned to help the team be successful
  • Excellent communication, presentation and computer skills using Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Large ERP's such as SAP experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically capable of performing all required duties
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, working on floating barges, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in both an office environment and in a mineral processing environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, Working over Water, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as needed or directed by leadership.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or related technical field.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a technical-related field

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have at least 3-7 years of previous proven process engineering experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven (7) plus years of process engineering experience in the Lime, cement, or minerals industry experience strongly preferred.
