Responsibilities

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for conducting an educational assessment and developing and implementing an individualized tutorial plan based on the individuals learning needs and abilities. The Teacher Assistant creates a safe environment for clients, provides direct supervision of clients, empowers clients, and teaches new tools for coping to clients. The Teacher Assistant will participate as an integral member of the treatment team and in developing the continuing care plan with regard to educational placement upon discharge. The Teacher Assistant will provide age and developmentally appropriate education in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Compass Intervention Center.

Essential Job Functions

    • Performs Educational Assessment on assigned clients within 72 hours of admission and prior to the Master Treatment Planning session with consideration to age, mental, social and psychical and developmental status. Incorporates discharge planning needs relative to educational placement upon discharge. Accurately and thoroughly documents assessment using appropriate clinical terminology.
    • Identifies client's learning abilities and develops individualized educational plan integrating information obtained through assessment, home school program, family and/or primary care giver and estimated length of stay.
    • Actively participates in the development of the Master Treatment Plan by presenting pertinent information and conclusions identified through the assessment and incorporating therapeutic interventions.
    • Develops realistic and measurable short term goals and desired outcomes incorporating identified goals of clients, families and home school, when appropriate.
    • Provides relevant information to treatment team by attending team meeting, if needed or on an individual basis with team members.
    • Participates in ongoing reassessment of the client and incorporates changes in the treatment plan revisions at least every 7 to 10 days in accordance with program.
    • Maintains academic records and charts behavioral and academic progress on a weekly basis indicating attainment of established goals.
    • Completes designated portion of multidisciplinary continuing care plan to include educational placement and transition upon discharge.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Qualifications

Requires a High School diploma. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.
