The successful candidate will serve as a research associate and a lab manager in Dr. Grace Shins lab at the Department of Neurology (www.shin-lab.com). The successful candidate will also have opportunity to collaborate with research teams at OSU, Johns Hopkins, and Columbia. They will be exposed to cutting-edge quantitative microscopy in projects that investigate neuro-immune interactions in neurodegenerative conditions, such as chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and nerve injury. Specifically. it will be at the Research Associate 1-B/H level, who participates in planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory investigating neuro-skin-immune interactions in the Department of Neurology; participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies; designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; performs advanced molecular and cellular advanced light microscopy, machine/deep learning-based image analysis, immunofluorescence labeling, and cutting-edge tissue processing techniques; primarily in mouse model organisms and human patient samples focusing on PNS and skin histology; collects, analyzes and interprets research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and international conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents; assists principal investigators in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory research staff; oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment; performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 3 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 1 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experiences managing (or willingness to manage) a team is required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Experience in a biological/health science research capacity is strongly preferred, particularly in the neurology, cancer, or dermatology dealing with human samples and process these samples through multi-omics approaches. Experience in establishing and managing animal and human IRB protocols are preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
