Overview

As the Welding Instructor you will provide instruction in within our Welding Program in the Flexible Delivery Format. Position will report directly to the Dean Manufacturing, Apprenticeship, Technology and Transportation.

This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of December 1, 2025. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.



Responsibilities

    Lead instruction and student assessment, ensuring students are working toward the competencies of defined course and program learning outcomes.
  1. Collaborate with Business & Industry and Secondary Education to ensure the development of a high quality students for professions within the Welding Industry.
  2. Collaborate with instructors, advisors and staff in a team effort to help drive student success in the new teaching and learning environments.
  3. Develop curricula, assessments, lab projects and assess other materials, enhancing this student centered flexible technological learning approach, including on-line, face-to-face and project-centered lab environments.
  4. Update and maintain course outcome summaries.
  5. Create a classroom/lab environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
  6. Maintain accurate student records as requested by administrative offices and according to state regulations.
  7. Work collaboratively with college staff in selection and ordering of course and lab materials.
  8. Identify students needing assistances and refer students to Student Services.
  9. Participate in staff development actives and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
  10. Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct violations to administration.
  11. Assist in student and staff recruitment, retention, and job placement activities for graduates.
  12. Attend department, division and faculty meetings; hold weekly office hours, and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
  13. Assist the Chair/Dean in other duties as assigned.
  14. Meet Wisconsin Technical College System requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

  1. Hands-on welding in production, fabrication, or construction environments
  2. Proficiency in multiple welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW)
  3. Experience with welding codes and procedures
  4. Blueprint reading and fabrication
  5. Ability to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on welding and fabrication equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. One (1)yr Technical Diploma or higher in Welding, Welding Technology, Fabrication, Manufacturing, Maintenance, or related technical field. (Candidates hired with less then an Associate Degree may be asked to complete an Associate degree within 3 years of hire date or complete a CWI credential.) or State/federal approved registered apprenticeship completion in welding-related trades (steamfitter, boilermaker, sheet metal, millwright, ironworker, industrial maintenance, or closely related trade)
  2. Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of occupational welding experience in industry or closely related field. At least One year (2,000 hours) of occupational experience must be within the last 5 years. One year (2,000 hours) of occupational experience may be waived if the instructor has at least 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience in welding (8 semesters part-time or 4 semesters full-time) within 5 years prior to appointment.
  3. Industry certification (one of the following)

American Welding Society (AWS) or other third-party:

  1. Certified Welding Inspector (CWI); OR
  2. Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI); OR
  3. Multiple Certified Welder (CW) credentials in various positions and processes
  4. Wisconsin State Certified Welder (structural welding per Wisconsin Statute Ind.53.63)
  5. ASME Section IX certifications or API 1104 certifications

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Industrial Technology, Technical Education, Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or related field
  2. Pipe Welding and Stainless Steel Welding experience desired.
  3. OFC, PAC, CAG welding experience.
  4. Previous post-secondary education experience and/or technical writing skills.

Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
