Summary: Responsible for the daily operations of the department and the supervision of staff. Supervises and coordinates the daily technical tasks of reprocessing medical and surgical equipment to ensure items are assembled in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Licenses and Credentials: Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required

Experience: Central Processing Sterilization Experience 3-5 years required and Supervisory Experience 3-5 years required

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service:

  • Provides operational support to the OR Nursing team by via direct support to Service Line Coordinator team.
  • Responsible for the effective transport of sterile instruments and supplies needed to support OR cases.
  • Assists in the fulfillment of priority inventory requests by efficiently retrieving items and delivering them to appropriate drop off locations.
  • Uses SPM to ensure the accuracy of the needs list by scanning items to intended case cart and/or Operating Room. Adjust any updated case information as necessary.
  • Capable of working within a matrix team environment, demonstrates initiative and the ability to prioritize workloads under stressful and changing situations.
  • Develop working knowledge of instruments, soft goods, and specialty supplies for all services. Utilizes product knowledge and SPM to offer substitute products when requested products are unavailable.
  • Must be able to locate and provide specialty supplies and specialty instrumentations for any service.
  • Follows the Failed Device Workflow to transport and document devices failures in the Operating Room.
  • Scans out products from Mobile Aspects Cabinets when appropriate.
  • Assists in the management of Emergency Cart contents by auditing for completeness, verifying locks and logging compliance as directed.

Supply:

  • Responsible for supply procurement, including tissue and implants and ensuring inventory levels are maintained.
  • Assists with de-casing orders in breakdown areas, removing all cardboard to preserve a clean environment.
  • Handles and distributes supplies safely to maintain sterile product integrity.
  • Responsible for the stocking of assigned non-specialty supplies and inventory items in designated supply locations.
  • Replenish supply locations using FIFO (First In, First Out-rotational) procedure to avoid stockpiling and ensure sterility of product.
  • Consistently check for outdates and removes expired products from supply locations.
  • Gathers unused sterile supplies and returns them to their designated stock locations.
  • Monitor overstock storage areas and restock depleted stock locations accordingly.
  • Maintain overall tidiness, cleanliness, and good order in supply locations; ensures items are properly shelved.
  • On a periodic basis and as requested, cleans storage bins and shelves to maintain dust-free environment.
  • Maintain flow and cleanliness of elevator lobbies in a neat and clean manner with minimal inventory storage. Works closely with Environmental Services to ensure waste, pallets and skids are clear of all egress.
  • Provides support to end users and staff members regarding product location, delivery and returns as requested

Case Pick:

  • Collects sterile supplies in specific quantities as specified by the patient-specific Preference Card, inspecting each product for expiration and package integrity.
  • Collects sterile instrument sets and peel packs in specific quantities as specified by the patient-specific Preference Card, inspecting each product for indications of appropriate sterilization and package integrity including wrap and sterilization tape integrity, and presence of external locks.
  • Selects empty Case Carts that are appropriate for the amount of sterile product needed and ensures the Case Cart is clean and free of soil and debris.
  • Using SPM, builds Case Carts for assigned surgical cases. Scans all instruments and supplies to the Case Cart.
  • Scans the Case Cart to appropriate Operating Room and/or storage locations.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
