About the Job:

Diesel Apprentice is responsible for service, repair, adjust, and test all mobile equipment operating throughout the plant to maximize performance and limit downtime. Inspect all mobile equipment to identify and troubleshoot the cause of errors. Perform repairs to address problems when necessary. Safely handle, install, position, and move parts, materials, and industrial hand tools throughout the shop and plant. Ensure that correct and accurate documentation regarding all mobile equipment is completed daily and monthly. Enter and maintain service reports for all the mobile equipment in written or electronic form.

What You'll Do:

  • Repair and maintain mobile equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and material to identify and troubleshoot the cause of errors.
  • Handle, install, position and move parts, materials and industrial hand tools in a safe manner throughout the shop and facility.
  • Ensure correct and accurate documentation is completed on a daily and monthly basis related to mobile equipment.
  • Maintain service reports for all mobile equipment.
  • Perform physical activities to perform repair or maintenance.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work overtime and extended hours including weekend depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to loud noises.
  • Must have knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance.
  • Subject matter expert and ability to apply knowledge and experience in situations.
  • Must have Valid driver's license.

  • Technical Expertise - Solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction and report them to the maintenance team.
Qualifications

Skills You Need:

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional vocational/trade school training in a mechanical field is also preferred.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a diesel mechanic or related field.
  • Previous experience working on diesel or heavy construction equipment is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
  • Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
  • In accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards, take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times.
