Purpose Under general supervision provide support for department research through projects, maintenance and communication of data, and execution of laboratory experiments. Primary Functions * Prepare media and maintain cells by various culturing techniques. * Assist in preparation of laboratory stocks including protein expression constructs, buffers, gels and other common reagents or supplies. * Carry out recombinant protein purification from bacteria, insect cells or mammalian cells and assess product purity using analytical methods including SDS-PAGE, HPLC, MS and NMR. * Carry out routine molecular biology techniques such as polymerase chain reaction, bacterial transduction, and transfection of cell lines. * Carry out experimental designs for sponsored research projects and perform routine experiments. * Carry out computational biology calculations to develop high resolution models of protein complexes. * Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results. * Assist with the evaluation, interpretation and assessment of experimental data and quality control of assays. * Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed. * Prepare technical reports, write and maintain laboratory protocols, and prepare and maintain safety manuals and other laboratory documentation. * Assist the Principal Investigator with the dissemination of laboratory information via email or web-based communication. * Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories. * Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research including automated and robotic instrumentation. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management. Data science methods and utilization (e.g. Python), complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
