Details

A postdoctoral research scholar position is available working jointly with Dr. Richard Hardin and Professor Albert Ratner at the Iowa Technology Institute in the College of Engineering. The initial appointment is funded for one year from the date of hire. Dr. Hardin's research interests are in metal solidification and Professor Ratner'sresearch interests are primarily in combustion and gasification with a focus on fuel additives and combustion performance. This position will focus on developing experimental research work including fabricating new XRF scanning and compositional mapping test facilities and evaluating the performance of new nano-scale additives. The person hired for this post-doctoral scholar position will be responsible for the design, development, and programming of an XRF scanning system, including building and testing the system, collecting validation data, and documenting both the device design and computer code to enable direct scaling of the instrument. In addition, the person will be responsible for data collections and analysis of research data for the combusting drop experiment, independently troubleshooting experiments, and training graduate students and research assistants. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the preparation of manuscripts related to his/her work. The position is in a work environment in which faculty, scientists, post-doctoral fellows, research associates and graduate/undergraduate students regularly interact and conduct collaborative research studies. Therefore, communication and interpersonal skills are also a necessary attribute.

Education Requirement: Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related fields

Required Qualifications:

* Proven ability to work independently and experience in experiment design, construction, operation, and optimization

* Competence in using programming and data analysis with Matlab libraries and toolkits

* Good communication and writing skills in English.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in either of the following fields.

* Metal casting and solidification

* Combustion and fuel testing
