We are seeking a Software Developer to join the Systems Engineering Simulator (SES) Integrated Studies Team, supporting high-fidelity spacecraft simulations and human-in-the-loop mockups that shape the future of space missions.

What You'll Do

As a Systems Engineering Simulator (SES) Integrated Studies Team Member / Software Developer you will:

  • Provide team leadership for SES software and hardware projects from initiation to implementation, verification, and closure.
  • Assist with task order management and reporting to NASA JSC ER and Amentum Management.
  • Assist with gathering customer requirements and putting together projects and teams to perform research and development to meet those requirements.
  • Research innovative new simulation and graphics technologies that would be beneficial to SES customers.
  • Research better methods to track SES inventory of hardware and software to provide better cost modeling to customers.
  • Work closely with customer to capture and manage simulation and software requirements.
  • Design and develop software.
  • Perform integration and testing of software with visuals and human-in-the-loop mock-ups.
  • Perform software testing and verification.
  • Troubleshoot simulation issues as they arise.
  • Develop software documentation.
  • Interface with customers for simulation sessions and studies, including setup, simulation execution and follow-up.
  • Demonstrate simulations and facilities to SES visitors and customers.
  • Perform rapid troubleshooting and resolving system issues
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Successfully operate in a highly dynamic simulations engineering environment with a team of engineers working to rapidly develop spacecraft simulation functionality.
  • Strong customer focus, highly effective communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing engineering environment with demanding customers on a compressed schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education / Experience / Skills:

    • BS Degree in a STEM field from an accredited institution and up to five (5) years of related experience.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstration of ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
    • Experience with Linux.
    • Computer programming experience.

Strong Preferences:

    • Experience with the following programming/scripting languages:
      • C/C++
      • Python
      • Tcl/Tk
      • Java
      • Javascript / JQuery
      • PHP

Preferred Qualifications:

        • Experience with the NASA "Trick" Simulation Environment
        • Experience with Object-oriented Programming.
        • Experience with database manipulation (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
        • Experience with shell scripting (e.g., Csh, Tcsh, Bash, etc.)
        • Experience with debugging programs in general
        • Experience writing software for hardware interfaces (such as Ethernet, hand controllers, serial ports, etc.).
        • Experience with the Git and Gitlab.
        • Experience with DOUG/EDGE graphic engines
