Job Summary
Launch your leadership career with our Custodial Manager in Training (MIT) Program-a hands-on, rotational experience designed for recent graduates and early-career professionals eager to grow in facilities management. Over the course of six months, you'll gain the skills, confidence, and exposure needed to step into an Assistant Director role upon completion.

As a Custodial MIT, you'll dive deep into operations, learn to lead teams, and master the business fundamentals behind running a successful custodial program. This immersive program combines classroom learning, field training, and stretch assignments that prepare you to lead with confidence in a people-first organization.

What You'll Learn & Do

Operations & Procedures

  • Master cleaning standards, daily schedules, and quality assurance systems.
  • Learn best practices in safety, chemical handling, and Interplay compliance training.

Leadership Foundations

  • Build supervisory skills: scheduling, labor allocation, and performance management.
  • Practice conflict resolution and develop effective communication with frontline teams.

Business Acumen

  • Understand budget fundamentals, with emphasis on labor and supply control.
  • Gain experience in KPI tracking, reporting, and client interaction.

Professional Skills

  • Strengthen time management, adaptability, and resilience in new environments.
  • Develop strong presentation and communication skills, with access to Ty Boyd training when available.

Timeline of Development

  • Months 1-2: Shadow custodians and supervisors, learning day-to-day workflows.
  • Months 3-4: Lead small teams and projects under supervision; practice scheduling and inspections.
  • Months 5-6: Step into acting supervisor responsibilities and gain exposure to Assistant Director-level reporting and client interaction.

Stretch Assignments
You'll have opportunities to:

  • Lead a shift team during a large-scale event or turnover cleaning.
  • Conduct a quality inspection and present recommendations to leadership.
  • Develop and monitor a labor schedule for one week.
  • Create and deliver a safety tailgate training session.

How We Measure Readiness

  • Ability to independently lead a shift team.
  • Demonstrated accuracy in building and adjusting labor schedules.
  • 85%+ performance on a mock client inspection.
  • Successful completion of a budget exercise (labor + supply forecast).
  • Positive evaluations from both a mentor and site director.

Program Completion & Promotion
By the end of the program, MITs must demonstrate mastery of 80-90% of operational and leadership competencies, successful stretch assignments, and positive client/mentor evaluations. Graduates are then eligible for promotion into Assistant Director roles within the custodial service line.
