Overview:

The Case Underwriting department is looking for a highly motivated and energized individual to join our team and support Employee Benefit Solution's employer group market sales, earnings, and retention goals by effectively underwriting and servicing group life and group supplemental health plans. Internal and external partners trust us to identify their needs, develop solutions and deliver results. We work in a fast-paced, exciting environment where we respond to the needs of existing and prospective clients quickly and effectively. Case Underwriters work closely with associates in all areas of the Employee Benefit Solutions division and play an integral role in supporting Employee Benefit Solution's financial and service objectives.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage all aspects of case underwriting function for prospective and in force life and supplemental health plans.

  • Develop in depth knowledge and product expertise related to group term life, group critical illness, accident and hospital indemnity insurance product suite.

  • Effectively utilize underwriting guidelines, tools and models to develop appropriate renewal rates; complete plan design analyses and supporting renewal documentation.

  • Manage incoming requests for plan changes, making appropriate decisions and offers; support growth initiatives by leveraging opportunities to expand product offerings and increase premium on targeted in force plans.

  • Communicate pricing and plan design decisions to internal and external partners as needed; negotiate to acceptable outcomes.

  • Ensure that new business proposals, renewals and in force casework meet aggressive deadlines as well as high quality standards.

  • Implement all rate and/or plan changes and provide all required documentation to internal and external parties.

  • Support the implementation of new sales.

  • Assist Case Underwriting department in managing additional in force and prospective business requests as needed.

  • Work on special projects to improve the underwriting and servicing capabilities of the unit.

Qualifications:

  • Analytical and mathematical skills to understand and utilize sophisticated pricing models to make appropriate pricing recommendations and decisions.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills to explain complex pricing methodology, to ensure outcomes are favorable for clients and Securian, and to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy of work.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet tight deadlines and manage active workloads.

  • Strong service attitude, including approachability and flexibility to interact positively with our partners.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently.

  • Proficiency with Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of supplemental health product suite, administrative capabilities and market.

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$45,500.00 - $84,500.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
