Position Summary

The Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a full-time academic pathologist to join our faculty serving as the Director of the Division of Pathology Education. Additional experience practicing a pathology subspecialty (AP or CP) is desirable. Rank and tenure will be commensurate with candidate's experience and qualifications.

The UIC Department of Pathology is among the country's fastest-growing academic departments and provides a unique environment to foster the development of academic careers. Duties & Responsibilities

  • This position involves providing direction for departmental faculty involvement and development in undergraduate and graduate medical education programing, including pre-clinical medical student education and pathology residency and fellowship training programs. The College of Medicine utilizes active, team-based, and problem-based learning, and its Department of Medical Education is the oldest and largest such department in the world. The Department of Pathology has an ACGME accredited Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency program with nineteen residents, a Clinical Informatics fellowship with four fellows, Surgical Pathology fellowships with two fellows, and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, Cytopathology, and Hematopathology fellowships with one fellow each. Each training program has a faculty program director and dedicated program coordinator who provides administrative support.
  • Opportunities exist to participate in pathology diagnostic services depending on the area of certification and expertise.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Candidates for this position must have an MD, DO, DO/PhD, MD/PhD or other equivalent degree, qualify for a license to practice medicine in Illinois, and possess board certification in AP, CP or AP/CP.

    The successful candidate will have an extensive background in pathology education, with experience providing pathology education in undergraduate medical education and in residency and/or fellowship programs. Interest in development or continuation of scholarly activity in education is highly desirable.
