Overview

Department 460, Construction Support Engineering - Groton, is seeking a highly motivated candidate to support submarine construction activities of VIRGINIA Class Post Shakedown Availability. D460 is responsible for the resolution of design issues, trouble-shooting of construction problems, technical support for manufacturing operations, verification and certification of as-built dimensions and configurations, and implementation of process improvements.

The department's main goal is to provide timely, high quality engineering support for all shipyard trade activities at the Electric Boat Groton Shipyard. In addition, engineers in D460 are exposed to various aspects of submarine design and construction, which provides opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer. Deck plate engineers provide technical support for manufacturing and testing of submarine non-nuclear electrical systems and components.

The individual selected for this position will be responsible for providing the technical support for submarine construction activities for VIRGINIA Class submarines in their Post Shakedown Availability period. This position requires continued progression of technical and project management skills. The successful candidate is expected to help manage construction issues for manufacturing and testing of submarine systems and components.

Duties include problem solving and troubleshooting, evaluation of construction and design errors, and preparation of written engineering documents via UNSATs, Post Delivery Deficiency Items (PDDIs), Ripouts, Engineering Reports, and Technical Work Documents. Engineers will communicate engineering assessment with Operations Trade, Planning, and Ship's Management organizations. They are also expected to relay shipyard priorities to appropriate engineering groups.

Weekend and evening support is required as needed to support shipyard needs, key events, and certification.
