POSITION/JOB TITLE: Associate General Counsel

DEPARTMENT: Legal

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: SVP, Chief Legal & Administrative Officer

TRAVEL: <20%

POSITION SUMMARY: We're looking for an attorney with experience in compliance, labor and employment, and litigation to serve as Associate General Counsel and represent the company in legal matters. Our new hire will work closely with our Chief Legal and Administrative Officer on a variety of legal issues, including employment, compliance, litigation, and regulatory counselling.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Oversee investigations in response to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and SunCoke's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics ("Code of Conduct").


  • Maintain and update the Code of Conduct and related core compliance policies.
  • Develop and conduct compliance training programs for managers and/or employees, including virtual trainings utilizing SunCoke's compliance platform.
  • Provide guidance on the effective response to detected compliance issues, make recommendations, determine corrective actions/resolutions/compliance plans, and oversee implementation of such actions, resolutions and/or plans.
  • Carry out periodic evaluation of compliance policies and procedures and make appropriate changes and improvements.


  • Partner with Human Resources to advise and assist various business units on employee relations matters, including union-related matters, terminations, disciplinary matters, restructurings, redundancies, layoffs, etc.
  • Assist in the management and oversight of litigation matters, including employment-related litigation matters.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and help oversee workers' compensation claims.


  • Ensure that SunCoke complies with existing and developing federal and state laws and regulations.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:



  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
  • Experience with advising on both domestic and international matters.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Prior experience in litigation or employment-related law, with 3-6 years of professional legal experience at a law firm working on complex litigation matters.


CERTIFICATIONS:



  • Licensed to practice law in the relevant state.


Base pay $168,000 - $220,000 based on experience.

Annual performance bonus target 25%
