Purpose

To provide medical care for patients eligible for UHS services and leadership for the UHS Urgent Care, Sports Medicine and STI Screening Clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary medical care for students of the University.
  • Performs Chief of Urgent Care and Sports Medicine duties:
    • Recruit, interview and hire (with the approval of the CMO) new medical staff in the department.
    • Provide supervision for medical staff in the department, including onboarding / departmental orientation, probationary period assessment (when indicated), completion of chart review activities with Medical Staff Credentials Committee, ongoing counseling as needed for personnel issues, and annual performance evaluations. Provide (or delegate) chart co-signature pending third party insurance credentialing clearance if indicated.
    • Lead by example, emphasizing quality of care, patient safety, communication, operational efficiency and a culture of respect.
    • Work collaboratively with nurse leadership to address personnel issues and clinical concerns in the department.
    • Manage Time off requests to ensure that there will be adequate medical staff resources to meet the demands of the department. Manage and approve time sheets for medical staff. Work with other departmental leadership to address staffing needs as needed.
    • Receive, investigate and adhere to established processes for handling incident reports and patient feedback.
    • Serve as a member of Clinical Management Team (CMT):
      • Work collaboratively with leadership of other departments and clinics to manage clinical processes, staffing, policies and procedures.
    • Serve as a member of the UHS Medical Executive Committee (MEC):
      • Establish and implement UHS goals, objectives and standards of care across service lines.
    • Serve as a member of Medical Staff Credentials & Privileges Committee (MSCC):
      • Appoint, reappoint, credential and privilege providers, review annual peer review and address provider quality of care concerns.
    • Support and participate in quality improvement efforts, including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with quality improvement initiatives and findings. Work with and support the activities of the UHS Quality Management program.
    • Provide guidance and support for departmental goals regarding process improvement, patient volume, accurate coding for visits, and the provision of quality, evidence-based patient care.
    • Communicate openly with the CMO about issues related to medical staff in the department.
  • Periodic responsibilities include:
    • Participate in and support peer review for medical staff.
    • Serve on or lead UHS committees as needed.
    • Participate in outreach programs on campus, as appropriate.
  • Review and demonstrate compliance with UHS and departmental policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in the U.S.
  • Current Board certification in a primary care specialty applicable to college health.
  • Valid DEA registration.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine. If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license in the State of Texas within three (6) months of date of hire.
  • Two or more years of experience in providing primary medical care to patients in an ambulatory setting, including use of electronic medical records
  • Leadership experience in an ambulatory clinic setting overseeing medical staff
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Keen diplomatic instincts, emotional intelligence and skill in engaging individuals and groups in constructive conversation.
  • Experience working with, and appreciation and respect for the value of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than the required years of experience
  • Two or more years of experience in providing medical care to young adult age patients, preferably in a college health clinic
  • Experience with medical supervision of advanced practice registered nurses and/or physician assistants in a clinic setting
  • Experience with electronic medical records, preferably Point and Click
  • Familiarity in working in an integrated behavioral health clinic setting

Salary Range

External candidates: $205,000 per year

Current UHS candidates: current salary + $20,000 per year

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
