JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Student Disability Resources (SDR) is looking for a part-time Lab Assistant for a student who has a mobility impairment taking Chemistry Lab courses during the Fall 2025 Semester. The individual hired for this role will assist the student with classroom-based lab activities to ensure access to course information. In addition, they may also assist with outside of class lab work and assessments if physical manipulation of materials is needed. Primary duties include:

Lab Assistant

  • Act as the student's lab assistant during class.
  • Physically manipulate lab equipment and materials on the student's behalf.
  • Retrieve, carry, and organize lab components on the student's behalf.
  • Carry out the student's verbal instructions exactly as described.
Lab Safety
  • Follow all appropriate lab safety procedures.
  • Notify appropriate university personnel of safety issues or concerns.
Other
  • Other tasks as assigned by SDR.
Requirements:
  • Time commitment:
  • Attend scheduled class sessions in-person, on the Penn State University Park Campus.
  • Tuesday: 1:30PM - 5:30PM
  • Able to schedule time outside of class to work on course assignments.
  • Able to work an estimated four to eight hours per week.
  • Knowledge of Chemistry lab safety procedures is required.
  • Previous experience working with individuals who have disabilities is preferred but not required.
Additional Notes
  • Job-related training will be provided.
  • The individual hired for this role is not responsible for individually teaching course material.
  • CHEM 111 Teaching Assistants, Learning Assistants, and past students are encouraged to apply.
