Short Description

  • Follows SOPs to receive, log, accession, and process biological specimens. Ensures proper sample identification, integrity, and completeness. Handles add-on tests and prepares specimens for referral or special testing, including proper dispatch or courier coordination.
  • Operates the pneumatic tube system according to infection control protocols. Distributes specimens accurately and promptly to appropriate laboratory sections.
  • Answers calls professionally and courteously. Addresses inquiries regarding specimen collection or test results using reference materials or directs to appropriate staff. Follows up with callers in a timely manner.
  • Collects blood specimens from patients when needed due to staffing shortages. Follows all identification, labeling, infection control, and safety protocols.
  • Accurately documents all specimen-related activities in the LIS and/or logs. Manages section logs, send-out requisitions, and maintains documentation for reference lab processes. Files reports and processes related clerical tasks.
  • Adheres to safety procedures; keeps the work area free of clutter and personal items. Reports hazards and participates in maintaining compliance with hospital, lab, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Completes daily temperature checks on rooms, refrigerators, freezers, and incubators. Performs basic maintenance on assigned lab equipment and documents results as required.

Experience Required

  • Previous laboratory experience required

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

License/Certification Requirements

  • National Phlebotomy certification or equivalent is preferred
Hourly Rate Min $16.5
Hourly Rate Max $20


The New Jersey Pay Transparency Act requires disclosure of the pay range for this position.

A salary offer will vary based on the job role, candidate experience, qualifications, internal pay equity and market data.
