DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will undertake various technical responsibilities related to the inspection of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects within Engineering District 9-0. Your primary objective will be to ensure that all work adheres to the approved construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications. It is crucial to inspect all phases of transportation construction, which includes assisting in verifying grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways alongside contractors and surveyors. You will also be responsible for examining the placement of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials; as well as completing compaction testing of sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregates using visual non-movement methods. This position gives you the opportunity to analyze contract plans, specifications, and special provisions and explain the contract requirements to contractor personnel. Additional responsibilities include:
- Recording personal and contractor work in Field Inspector's Diaries, Item Quantity Books, and Sketch/Computation Books
- Completing mathematical calculations to determine consistency of materials being used
- Drawing sketches and noting field plan changes
- Maintaining consolidated construction inspection progress and quality control reports
- Checking work zone traffic control signs and devices
- Reviewing and monitoring construction documentation and estimates

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours are subject to change due to vendor controlled schedule.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, based on project assignments. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
