JOB SUMMARY
The museum store supervisor provides the foundation for excellent store operations through accurate management of store sales, financial reporting, and personnel training and supervision. They provide leadership in museum store operations that directly impacts a guest's experience while visiting The New York Historical and the NYHistory Store. The individual will work closely with the Director of Merchandise Operations (DMO), the Supervisor of Merchandise Operations (SMO), the E-commerce Coordinator (ECC) and the museum store sales associates in fulfilling their responsibilities. The museum store supervisor shifts are Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and an additional day or evening as needed, with a maximum of 24 hours per week. Only candidates who can commit to work Friday-Sunday will be considered.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES


  • Supervise store sales staff:

    • Assign general responsibilities and special projects to sales staff on daily basis;
    • Assists DMO & SMO with daily scheduling and ensure coverage for breaks and emergencies;
    • Implement New York Historical and NYHistory Store policies and procedures, as they relate to museum store staff;
    • Teach sales techniques and customer service practices; ensure implementation and take appropriate steps to correct deficiencies;
    • Train staff on Point-of-Sale system, ensure efficient operation of each register and correct balance at the end of each shift;
    • Council, train, coach and discipline store sales staff. Drive, motivate and encourage staff to meet daily sales targets;


  • Practice approved cash handling procedures and security measures, including opening activities, closing activities, change fund management, securing deposits, cash drawer reconciliation, and sales reporting, and weekend summary report;
  • Serve as the final destination for customers who seek answers to issues. Handle customer complaints, requests and questions with professionalism and courtesy. Enforce museum store customer care policies and procedures;
  • Provide customer support operations for the online store via email and phone. Receive, investigate and respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Fill online store customer orders. Prepare shipments for commercial conveyance;
  • Maintain visually exciting merchandise displays and signage in store. Maintain relevant and fresh displays in merchandisers throughout the building;
  • Oversee merchandise restocking. Restock store after each shift taking care to refresh displays, and replenish quick-selling items with adequate stock quantities;
  • Assist with receiving product shipments, retrieving shipments from loading dock, and shipping merchandise. Ensure that received product is correctly tagged prior to display in stores;
  • Undertake projects of moderate complexity for merchandise department and perform a broad range of administrative duties. Assist as needed with wholesale fulfillment. Field calls from customers, sales representatives and vendors;
  • Additional duties as requested.


REQUIREMENTS


  • Minimum of two years' experience in retail sales and reporting, management and customer service;
  • Proficiency with Excel and the entire Microsoft Office suite;
  • Experience with a point-of-sale inventory software system, Retail Pro preferred;
  • Proven record of accuracy and attention to detail, have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and be comfortable, positive and professional interacting with the public and coworkers;
  • Must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


The employee will spend many hours standing and some hours sitting and using a computer. They will also bend, stoop, and open cabinets and frequently walk from their desk to the museum store and storage areas on a different floor. The employee will frequently lift 20-40-pound boxes.


COMPENSATION
Salary: $28.00/hour
