The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

The Lead Infrastructure Networking and Operations will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and management of the company's global network infrastructure. This includes overseeing network operations, ensuring the availability and security of all networking services, and driving innovation to support business growth. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in network architecture, infrastructure management, and team leadership.

The role will report into the Head of IT and Digital Transformation and be based out of the Bay Area.



You will:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global network infrastructure strategy aligned with the company's business goals and technological vision.
  • Oversee the design, deployment, and optimization of scalable, secure, and high-performance networks (LAN, WAN, VPN, wireless, outdoor Wi-fi etc.) across data centers, Google cloud environments, and corporate offices.
  • Work with cross functional teams to build the infrastructure for Ingesting logs to Google Cloud as Waymo scales to different cities
  • Be responsible for managing GCP platform and deployment of services
  • Lead and mentor a team of network engineers and infrastructure specialists. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, ensuring skill development and career growth within the team.
  • Manage the daily operations of the company's global network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, reliability, and security. Proactively identify and resolve network issues to minimize downtime. Support GCP platform and deploy secure services and day to day IT Operations
  • Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO). Safeguard the network from internal and external threats.
  • Oversee relationships with network service providers, hardware vendors, and third-party consultants to ensure service levels, contracts, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Do proactive capacity planning and have agility to deliver services
  • Stay ahead of technology trends and industry best practices, introducing network solutions that improve performance, security, and scalability. Lead the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as SD-WAN, 5G, and cloud networking.
  • Manage the network infrastructure budget, including CAPEX and OPEX planning. Optimize spending while ensuring network resilience and scalability to meet the company's growing needs.
  • Ensure robust disaster recovery processes and business continuity plans are in place for the network infrastructure.
  • Think ahead of designing end user computing infrastructure learning from Alphabet best practices and create a blue print for laptops, techstop, mobile devices, GVC, Printers, helpdesk and supporting other end user services



You have:

  • Master's/Bachelor's/ degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in network infrastructure, with at least 10+ years in progressive leadership or managerial role.
  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise networking technologies (e.g., LAN/WAN, MPLS, VPN, SD-WAN, routing and switching protocols).
  • Experience with network security principles (firewalls, IDS/IPS, network segmentation).
  • Cloud networking experience with platforms like GCP
  • Familiarity with wireless networks, VoIP systems, and data center networking.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team. Possess "can do" attitude and business acumen to solve business problems and take initiative to find opportunities for continuous improvement. Strong people leader who manages with empathy, passion for people development across the team
  • Experience managing vendor contracts and third-party service providers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with C-level executives and cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Ensure appropriate processes, personnel and required technology capabilities are in place to meet business availability and performance service level agreements.
  • Responsible for collaborating across multiple functions and organizations to align on annual OKRs and shorter-term execution plans

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
