Job Summary:


We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Shipyard Project Manager to oversee shipyard operations, maintenance, and repair projects for our offshore tug and barge fleet. This role is critical in ensuring that all vessel work is completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in shipyard operations, project management, and marine engineering, with hands-on experience in managing dry dockings, refits, and capital projects.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Plan, coordinate, and manage dry-docking, repair, conversion, and maintenance projects for a fleet of 10 offshore tugs and 9 barges.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the shipyard, vessel crews, contractors, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, resource allocations, and work scopes.
  • Monitor and inspect all ongoing shipyard work to ensure quality control, regulatory compliance (ABS, USCG, etc.), and company standards.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, change orders, and contractor invoices.
  • Ensure all health, safety, and environmental policies are enforced during shipyard projects.
  • Coordinate logistics and material procurement for shipyard activities.
  • Lead post-project reviews and generate reports highlighting lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for ongoing vessel operations when required.


Requirements:



  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in a shipyard or marine engineering environment, ideally with tug & barge operations.
  • Experience with offshore Ocean-Going Tugs / Tank Barges / ATB's.
  • PMP certification or similar project management training preferred.
  • Proven track record in project management of shipyard/dry-docking activities.
  • Strong knowledge of marine systems, vessel structures, and regulatory standards (ABS, USCG, IMO).
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, technical specs, and repair work scopes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Proficiency with project management software is a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to work in various outside weather conditions and board ships, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/ladders of varying heights.
