Manager, Research - Austin & San Antonio

The Research Manager will lead the Central Texas research platform and establish themselves as a thought leader by telling a clear and compelling story about the local market, helping build and maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace through market expertise and providing analysis and strategic insight. This role involves engaging with market leaders, ensuring collaboration and support for client initiatives and business objectives, in addition to managing a Sr Analyst in the Austin market.

The Research Manager will support the Austin and San Antonio markets by using data from JLL and other sources to analyze market conditions and effectively tell a clear and compelling story about the local market that will enable JLL and its clients to be more effective, competitive and successful in the real estate marketplace. The role will manage and analyze the Austin and San Antonio commercial real estate markets with a focus on trend analysis, market presentation, strategic business development support and research content creation. You will work closely with external research colleagues, brokerage professionals and clients in the local market, as well as with research colleagues throughout the nation within JLL's Americas Research group.

What this job involves

  • Edit and manage production of all local market research reports and contributions to national reports
  • Analyze and report on the local and regional economy with respect to employment statistics, major company activity, industry trends and demographic shifts that affect the local economy and real estate market
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of the macro and micro factors affecting the marketplace and proactively position research to leverage this knowledge for the business and for clients
  • Manage a diverse, market leading and collaborative research team, including hiring, goal setting, performance management and training
  • Maximize your team's skills and analysis to tell a compelling story about the local market to establish JLL as the clear thought leader for understanding trends in commercial real estate, economics and demographic drivers
  • Implement and manage the overall local strategic research plan that aligns with Americas research plans and local business objectives
  • Collaborate at a high level with the Research Director and senior market leadership to execute the research plan
  • Present compelling trend analysis regularly to internal teams and clients
  • Manage the statistical and analytical quality of data for the market
  • Expand and improve the research platform, program, output and staff skills
  • Manage and contribute to the production of all local research reports providing a unique house view on market drivers and influencers
  • Develop and share best practice standards in Austin and San Antonio and across the full Americas Research group
  • Develop strong relationships with internal and external clients and facilitate the use of research as a differentiator including being personally client facing and externally focused on new business efforts
  • Work with marketing teams and business leaders to position research to contribute to all business development efforts
  • Develop white paper reports on key trends, issues affecting the markets, economy and region and contribute to national research reports on unique market economic or industry trends

Desired skills and experience for this job

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, urban planning or related field desired
  • Four or more years in commercial real estate research or closely related field
  • Command of local market and business with good understanding of macro trends and historical perspective
  • Dynamic presentation skills and experience presenting insightful content to clients
  • High-level analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Proactive and strategic thinking and ability to lead research initiatives, align research with the business and innovate research output
  • Ability to effectively and professionally exceed client expectations and positively represent the firm
  • Ability to multi-task, be resilient and can effectively manage time and workload
  • Management experience and ability to lead a team and program
  • Ability to lead research initiatives in alignment with business and marketing objectives
  • A desire to work within a diverse, collaborative and driven professional environment
