JOB TITLE: Development Sourcing Manager

REPORTING TO: Development and Commercialization Manager

LOCATION: Design Yard or Hildebran

TRAVEL: Up to 25%, International required (Canada and Mexico)

GENERAL PURPOSE

Leads, manages, and owns the purchasing and supply chain sourcing initiatives required within the new product development process and major insourcing/resourcing projects. Represents Supply Chain on Product Development Teams for upholstered products. Architects and implements the best possible value streams for quality, reliability, total landed cost and timing for new products through the product development process.

Supports local supply chain identification, expansion, qualification, and development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Based on development and launch criteria, manages the total supply chain setup to support upholstery launches including, but not limited to; material cost, lead-time, MOQ, capital investment, capacity, development efforts, quality and testing initiatives within the selected supply base.
  • Conducts global capacity analyses for various commodities, and leads identification, qualification, and onboarding of key new suppliers to expand upholstery supply base in North America.
  • Recommends capital investment globally and regionally based on total cost, quality and reliability.
  • Closely manages and challenges tooling timelines and progress in order to eliminate waste; works closely with Suppliers, Product & Quality Engineering in managing revisions.
  • Conducts Risk Assessments of design alternatives and value streams. Highlights risks and develops countermeasures for potential impacts to quality, reliability, total cost and timing for a new product.
  • Coordinates the value stream analysis for North American launches and recommends global and regional tooling strategies to support new product launches in North America.
  • Successfully analyzes and negotiates supplier cost build-ups to meet cost targets by having a solid understanding of component and tooling cost drivers (Material, Labor, Overhead, Selling, General & Administration (SGA) and Profit).
  • Owns New Product Development strategic sourcing plan with Commodity WTLs and Supplier Development Managers to ascertain preferred suppliers as determined by supplier performance criteria and development competency.
  • Develops and implements a transition plan of new components/products to the commodity teams, including value stream analysis, short- and long-term cost and capacity improvement opportunities.
  • Develops and nurtures strong working relationships needed with people at all levels of MillerKnoll and its suppliers.
  • Develops/utilizes supply base to align with the needs/requirements identified during the development process including new or innovative supplier processes.
  • Evaluates potential new suppliers to augment value streams for new products.
  • Documents and understands supplier capacities for all components.
  • Facilitates resolution of design, quality and price or delivery issues with the supply base throughout the development process and for a period of time following commercialization until all major development issues have been resolved.
  • Issues Purchase Orders and manages capital/expenses to support product launch.
  • May negotiate agreements that are complex in nature.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support PPAP completion and assure parts are properly released for production.
  • Supports and coordinates with product development teams to identify and implement improvements (Value Analysis/Value Engineering - VAVE).
  • Creates current and target conditions (A3) for the value stream on key components.
  • Successfully builds agreements and relationships which may span country and/or regional borders.
  • Travels to supplier and MillerKnoll facilities as required by project demands.
  • Uses Change Management skills and has the ability to influence change within MillerKnoll and our suppliers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Management, Materials Management, Finance, Engineering, Operations Management or related, equivalent experience.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) preferred.
  • 3-6 years in a professional procurement role with exposure to a variety of manufacturing processes and commodities, preferably in upholstered seating.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of business operations including Finance, Accounting, Legal, Supply Management, Materials Management, Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing, etc.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to do cost analysis and apply MillerKnoll Performance System (MKPS) thinking to supplier process and value streams.
  • Demonstrated successful negotiation skills.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply formal project management principles as appropriate; ability to set and meet own milestones and expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation/communication software and tools currently being used in the HMI office environment.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to assess priorities and determine course of action with minimal day-to-day supervision and be able to anticipate, recognize, and respond effectively to changes which affect project plans.
  • Must possess sound business acumen and understand how decisions impact business results.
  • Ability to ensure project completion within established time and budget guidelines, acceptable financial returns, and quality products satisfying relevant customer criteria.
