Join Our Team as Counsel - Healthcare Operations!

Are you ready to make a significant impact in the dynamic world of healthcare? We are seeking a passionate and skilled Counsel - Healthcare Operations to provide expert legal guidance across a diverse range of healthcare regulatory and operational matters. In this pivotal role, you will support our organization's continued growth while ensuring compliance with the ever-evolving healthcare legal landscape.

What You'll Do:

As our Counsel - Healthcare Operations, you will be at the forefront of legal compliance and operational excellence. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Advising Teams: Provide critical legal advice to business and clinical teams on compliance with federal and state healthcare laws, including HIPAA, HITECH, EMTALA, the No Surprises Act, and fraud, waste, and abuse laws such as the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, and Stark Law.

• Supporting Compliance: Ensure our organization meets payor contracting obligations, utilization management requirements, and delegated credentialing programs.

• Policy Development: Collaborate with Compliance and Operations teams to develop and enhance internal policies, procedures, and training programs.

• Training Delivery: Create and deliver engaging legal and regulatory training to internal stakeholders, promoting awareness and understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements.

• Legal Oversight: Provide legal oversight for organizational initiatives, including new market entry, mergers/acquisitions, service line expansion, and facility licensing.

• Regulatory Participation: Engage in regulatory audits, investigations, and responses to inquiries from federal and state regulatory agencies (e.g., CMS, OIG, state health departments).

• Monitoring Changes: Stay ahead of changes in healthcare laws and regulations, communicating relevant updates and their operational impact to key stakeholders.

• Risk Management Support: Offer guidance on risk management strategies related to patient care delivery and quality initiatives.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant legal experience, with at least 3 years focused on healthcare regulatory and operational law.

In-depth understanding of key federal and state healthcare laws and regulations.

Demonstrated ability to navigate complex legal issues in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to translate legal requirements into practical guidance for business teams.

Strong drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Prior in-house counsel experience at a healthcare provider organization, health system, or behavioral health company.

Familiarity with behavioral health regulatory frameworks at the state and federal levels.

Experience supporting multi-state operations and managing multi-jurisdictional regulatory challenges.

Understanding of value-based care models, managed care arrangements, and payor-provider alignment strategies.

Working knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation standards and Medicare Conditions of Participation.
