Job summary

The Sr. Director, Head US Marketing, will be responsible for building and leading the US marketing team (with 2 direct reports) and developing and executing the marketing strategy for what could be the first DNA medicine approved in US, with potential approval mid-2026 (a first-in-class drug/device combination product targeted for use in the rare disease Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis). This is a key role at a transformative moment in our company's journey, offering the opportunity to shape and execute the marketing strategy for a breakthrough innovation in DNA medicine. This is a high-impact role responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies that drive disease awareness, patient and HCP education, stakeholder engagement, and successful product uptake in the U.S. market.

The leadership role will report directly to the VP, Marketing and Sales and will lead the marketing function to support the successful launch and commercialization of the company's first DNA medicine. As a key leader on the commercial team, this individual will contribute to the development and execution of launch plans, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategic objectives. The successful candidate will contribute in-depth marketing strategy expertise and develop tactical plans with budget, resourcing, and an implementation plan to support the needs of the business.

This role will be both strategic and hands-on, requiring experience in rare disease market dynamics, marketing and launch strategy and tactical execution. The individual will build and develop marketing capabilities, ensuring seamless cross-functional collaboration with sales, market access, medical affairs, commercial analytics, regulatory, finance, and other functions.

Essential job functions and duties

  • Oversee the development of marketing and brand strategies and the execution of brand tactical plans in to support launch of INO-3107, anticipated to be INOVIO's first commercial product.
  • Develop strong product branding, campaigns and messaging based on approved product labeling.
  • Lead the development of HCP and patient marketing plans, tactics and resources.
  • Present marketing plans to executive leadership for input and alignment.
  • Actively manage and lead advertising agencies.
  • Build strong, credible, collaborative relationships with key functional groups that include sales, sales training, medical affairs, commercial analytics, legal, regulatory and other functions.
  • Collaborate with the Promotional Review Committee (PRC) team to ensure that all brand-related materials are scrutinized for medical validity and supported by brand labeling.
  • Ensure all marketing activities and communications are in full compliance with medical, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Generate customer insights through participation in both qualitative and quantitative market research.
  • Synthesize data from disparate sources to uncover market insights that can transform the business.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and utilize market insights to continuously refine and optimize marketing tactics for maximum impact.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with functional partners (sales, sales training, data analytics) to ensure sales representatives are prepared and resourced to achieve sales targets.
  • Oversee field guidance to ensure understanding and appropriate deployment of promotional campaigns to achieve objectives.
  • Plan and manage the marketing budget effectively and efficiently, ensuring resources are allocated to high-impact initiatives.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years in biotech and/or pharmaceutical marketing and sales leadership with experience leading new product launches.
  • Currently reside in Northeast, with ability to travel as needed.
  • Recent US launch and marketing leadership experience required, rare disease therapeutic area preferred.
  • Ability to efficiently manage agency partners to deliver high quality brand creative and market shaping tactics that effectively communicate brand benefits to HCPs and patients.
  • Deep expertise in pharmaceutical marketing regulations and compliance, including a thorough understanding of FDA guidelines, OIG requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Excellence written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and align stakeholders, serving as a trusted strategic partner within the organization.
  • Sharp analytical thinker who leverages data and insights to inform strategy, drive performance, and achieve business objectives.
  • Proven self-starter, able to work independently, able to handle full workload across multiple projects.
