Job summary

The Vice President of Marketing & Sales will lead the marketing and sales strategy for what could be the first DNA medicine approved in US, with potential approval mid-2026 (a first-in-class drug/device combination product targeted for use in the rare disease Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis). This is a pivotal executive role at a transformative moment in our company's journey, offering the opportunity to shape and execute the go-to-market strategy for a breakthrough innovative product. This is a high-impact, mission-critical role responsible for developing and executing integrated sales and marketing strategies that drive disease awareness, patient and HCP education, stakeholder engagement, and successful product uptake in the U.S. market.

This executive, reporting directly to the CCO, will be responsible for building and leading an integrated marketing and sales team and overseeing a near-term product launch. As a key member of the commercial leadership team, the VP will play a key role in moving INOVIO to a commercial stage biotech- delivering on both a near-term launch in rare disease, as well as helping to shape the longer-term strategy through lifecycle management and pipeline prioritization.

The ideal candidate will bring deep commercial experience (across marketing, sales and other commercial functions) in both large pharma and biotech and have recent launch experience, preferably in rare disease. Experience in combination drug/device products would also be desirable, but not essential. This role will span both strategy and execution, requiring strong strategic and tactical leadership experience and ability to build relationships with key customers and stakeholders. The incumbent will need to translate vision into measurable outcomes and drive performance across commercial functions.

Essential job functions and duties

  • Lead the U.S. commercial launch of INOVIO's first DNA-based combination therapy INO-3107.
  • Build integrated marketing and sales team.
  • Create an inclusive culture and enable a high-performing sales team to deliver focused execution and impact.
  • Ensure marketing effectively translates scientific and clinical data into compelling marketing narratives for HCPs, patients, and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with patient advocacy groups to ensure patient-centric marketing approaches.
  • Conduct market analysis, competitive intelligence, and forecasting to inform strategy.
  • Define and communicate a bold sales vision aligned with INOVIO's growth goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with key HCPs, health systems, and strategic partners.
  • Ensure all sales activities are compliant with healthcare regulations and internal policies. Promote ethical standards and compliance across marketing and sales teams.
  • Partner with medical affairs, market access, regulatory, and clinical development to ensure launch readiness.
  • Represent INOVIO at industry events, conferences, and external engagements.
  • Oversee marketing and sales budget planning and resource allocation.
  • Develop, track and optimize KPIs to ensure ROI and campaign effectiveness.
  • Identify, select, and manage external partners and agencies supporting sales and marketing.
  • Oversee outsourcing partnerships to ensure alignment with strategic goals, quality standards, and compliance requirements.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience with at least 5 years in a senior sales and senior marketing leadership roles.
  • Currently reside in Northeast, with ability to travel as needed.
  • Experience in biotech and rare disease required, experience in large pharma and with combination drug/device products preferred.
  • Proven success leading multiple U.S. commercial launches in rare disease or innovative therapies.
  • Deep leadership expertise in sales, sales management, sales training, brand leadership, and marketing disciplines.
  • Strong strategic thinking, operational execution, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Effectively collaborate with key cross-functional partners including medical affairs, market access, trade, commercial operations, legal, compliance and regulatory in order to make prompt and well-thought-out decisions for the organization and customers.
  • Skilled at influencing and aligning internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operate with a high sense of urgency and be agile to meet organizational needs quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with strong attention to detail in a business with changing priorities.
  • Hands-on approach with a willingness to roll up sleeves; operates independently without reliance on support staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to structure reports and presentations in a logical and clear manner to senior leadership team and board of directors.
