Data Interface Architect

HealthPartners is currently hiring a Data Interface Architect. The Architect role at HealthPartners is designed to strengthen the strategic planning, design, and operational efficiency of our corporate data products. This position plays a key role in defining and implementing standards, policies, and processes for both Data and Integration Architectures across the HealthPartners enterprise. It also leads and drives major initiatives that shape the future of HealthPartners' data architecture. As a representative of corporate data and integration needs, the Architect provides leadership that supports the broader goals of HealthPartners' Enterprise Architecture.

This role involves close collaboration with IT senior leadership, peers across the IT organization, business stakeholders including leadership and application managers, project managers and cross-functional teams, as well as external vendors and consultants.

The architect reports to a Director and Enterprise Architect and will join a team of six other architects.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent level of professional experience.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in data architecture within health insurance, provider, or integrated "payvider" environments.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, Erwin). Strong data modeling skills using relational and dimensional techniques.
  • Proven experience designing and deploying data solutions in the Microsoft Azure public cloud environment.
  • Proficiency with Databricks for building scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions.
  • Experience with Python for data engineering, transformation, and orchestration tasks
  • Experience in application software development methodologies, techniques, processes, and tools
  • Exceptional leadership, mentoring, listening and communication skills with a strong ability to influence without having direct authority.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into technical terms and technology strategy into business terms.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with modern core health plan and care delivery systems
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR)
  • Deep knowledge of health plan data domains (claims, eligibility, provider, pharmacy, utilization)
  • Experience supporting value-based care, quality metrics (HEDIS, Stars), or risk adjustment.
  • Experience with PBM data structures and integration strategies
  • Understanding of customer service and contact center platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Dynamics, NICE, Cisco)


Hours/Location:



  • M-F; Days
  • Hybrid schedule - typically one day per week on-site (Thursdays), with the potential to increase to two days at our Bloomington, MN corporate office.


Responsibilities:



  • Design and maintain enterprise data models across claims, eligibility, benefits, provider, pharmacy, and clinical domains.
  • Architect data solutions to support:

    • Pharmacy Benefit Manager migration (formulary, accumulators, claims, eligibility feeds)
    • Core administrative platform modernization (claims, billing, benefits, enrollment)
    • Value-based care enablement (risk adjustment, quality reporting, attribution)
    • Member and provider experience improvements (care group scheduling, digital engagement)

  • Define and govern canonical data models, reference data, and metadata standards.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, platform teams, and solution architects to implement real-time and batch integration patterns (APIs, HL7/FHIR, data lakes)
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, NCQA, and other healthcare data regulations.
  • Provide guidance on data lineage, impact analysis, and data stewardship practices.
  • Maintains awareness of the latest developments in key areas of responsibility and brings forward opportunities that might benefit the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
