Department Summary

The Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University of North Texas is a growing organization which serves over 6400 students in 14 residence halls. Our department is organized into the following areas: Residence Life, Systems and Services, and Facilities and Business Operations. UNT Housing contributes to the mission of the university by promoting safe and welcoming living environments, fostering student connections and campus engagement, and providing learning opportunities.

Position Overview

This position manages a residential area including direct supervision of 3-5 Community Directors, indirect supervision of graduate and undergraduate student staff, and oversight of student crisis and behavioral concerns. This position also coordinates departmental operational functions in such areas as recruitment, selection and/or training of professional or student staff, conduct and community standards oversight, and student group advising.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field five years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws relating to area of assignment, including safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed and supervised. Knowledge of University organizations, operations, policies and procedures including assigned function/area. Advanced communications skills both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Sensitivity to student needs and the ability to relate to students, parents, faculty and staff, and the public. Ability to direct and coordinate diverse work efforts. Excellent supervisory and management skills. Knowledge of and ability to support the function and goals of a large and complex housing and residence life organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field; two years of professional supervisory experience; experience with Maxient conduct management software; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:



  • Participates in on call rotation to assist and support hall staff response to crisis and concerns. Coordinates and assesses responses to students of concern. Relays crisis response information to Housing and Residence Life Leadership and the Dean of Students Office to facilitate student care.
  • Participates in Housing Midlevel management team. Leads departmental committees and initiatives as assigned. Serves as a member of the Housing and Residence Life midlevel leadership team to assist in executing departmentwide initiatives and decision-making. Actively engages participation in systemwide and university wide programs and role models involvement.
  • Supervises 3-5 Community Directors by conducting regular 1on1meetings, providing feedback and progressive accountability, facilitating development opportunities, and completing formal evaluations. Serves as secondary supervisor to all full and part time staff in residential area.
  • Manages the implementation of a departmental operation function to regulatory expectations and programmatic goals. Assesses the departmental operation and recommends changes to ensure best practices and organizational efficiencies. Operational functions may include recruitment, selection and/or training of professional or student staff, conduct and community standards oversight, and student group advising.
  • Assists with strategic planning, tactical implementation, and assessment of programs and services in Housing and Residence Life relative to functional area. Assigned by the Director of Residence Life that contributes to the overall Departmental strategic goal attainment
