What to Expect
Tesla Power Electronics is seeking a highly skilled and motivated PCBA Rework Technician to join our team. In this role, you will build, rework, and maintain repairs on PCBAs, and install instrumentation for testing in the Power Electronics Lab. You will collaborate closely with the Electrical Engineering and Design teams to define and build equipment, focusing on PCBA rework, electrical wiring (high and low voltage controls/comms), and custom instrumentation setup (e.g., voltage, current, temperature, flow rate). A typical day will involve communicating with the engineering team, performing rework tasks, providing feedback, updating documentation, and contributing to workflow enhancements when opportunities arise.

What You'll Do
  • Utilize soldering tools (iron/tweezers, hot air, preheaters/hot plate), hand tools, and power tools to populate, test, and repair prototype PCBAs, including through-hole and SMD components down to 0402 and 0201 sizes using a microscope
  • Install instrumentation onto PCBAs, such as thermocouples, strain gauges, and other sensors, to support testing and data collection
  • Read and comprehend electronic schematics or work from written/verbal instructions, often with minimal formal documentation, while maintaining accurate records for future reference
  • Troubleshoot various systems using documentation, instrumentation, and input from multiple Engineering teams, identifying root causes and suggesting practical solutions
  • Fabricate cable harnesses, demonstrating familiarity with various sleeving, wire, cable, and connector types, as well as crimp tools and techniques
  • Maintain an organized rework station, proactively managing tools and supplies to minimize downtime
  • Take initiative on additional tasks as requested, with the potential to contribute to process improvements and efficiency gains in the lab over time

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering development environment
  • IPC certification highly desired
  • Exceptional electrical prototyping skills (soldering, wire harness fabrication, harness diagrams)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills at the board component level, with an ability to analyze inefficiencies and propose practical ideas
  • A proactive mindset with an interest in optimizing workflows or organizing systems to enhance productivity
  • A safety-oriented approach with a willingness to adhere to company safety policies
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, a positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Experience in Confluence, Jira, MS 365, Python, LabVIEW, Modbus communication, CAN communication, or basic networking is a plus, especially for supporting test setups
