Position Summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Energy Services Supervisor to lead our energy services operations across main and branch campuses. In this critical role, you'll oversee a team of skilled technicians and ensure the delivery of high-quality maintenance, construction, and commissioning services that support the university's mission and energy goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises energy services personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and control, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Performs estimates of job costs for multi-trade projects; reviews work orders for compliance and billing purposes; orders supplies and materials.
  • Coordinates with customers, project technicians, and outside contractors to ensure the timely completion of required repairs and/or construction.
  • Serves as project manager for assigned energy services projects, as appropriate.
  • Evaluates and determines the resources needed for assigned energy services projects and/or contractor support.
  • Assists in the monitoring of energy consumption to ensure efficient and reduction goals are sustained during ongoing operations.
  • Oversees inspections, commissioning, and approvals of projects and work assignments; ensures all deliverables are complete.
  • Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the operating unit.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a computerized maintenance management system, including corrective and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assists in evaluating existing HVAC control logic and graphic displays. Oversees modifications to system programming to ensure accuracy and to reduce energy consumption.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of university-wide safety programs and in formulating maintenance strategies and policies.
  • Oversees and performs quality assurance inspections on all completed jobs; ensures conformance with institutional standards; identifies and resolves issues.
  • Oversees the organizing and maintenance of an inventory of test equipment, tools, and supplies; ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate customer services procedures and standards; interfaces with customers and resolves problems and conflicts as necessary.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Successful candidate may be required to submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check, depending on location and nature of position.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 9 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Current New Mexico Journeyman in one of the following disciplines: Journeyman Refrigeration (JR), Journeyman Gasfitter (JG), Journeyman Plumber and Natural Gasfitter (JPG), Journeyman Boiler Operator (BO1), Journeyman Boiler Operator (BO2) or a Journeyman Electrician (JE98), Journeyman Plumbing (Jp), Journeyman Gas (Jg), ES-3J Sound and Intercommunication and Electrical Alarm Systems, EE-98J Electrical (includes all ESJ Specialties), EE-98J Electrical (includes all ESJ Specialties), EL-1J Electrical Distribution Systems, including transmission lines, ES-3 Sound and Intercommunication and Electrical Alarm Systems, EE-98 Electrical (includes ER-1 and ES classifications) & EL-1 Electrical Distribution Systems, including transmission lines.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Completed management training from UNM-Lead or similar.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supervising multi-trade technical teams in a
    facilities or energy services environment, including performance management and
    scheduling.
  • Project management experience overseeing energy-related
    construction, commissioning, or retrofit projects from planning through
    completion.
  • Proficiency with energy management systems (EMS) such as
    Delta Controls or Automated Logic, including programming and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC control logic and system
    optimization, including reducing energy consumption through control strategies.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems
    (CMMS) for tracking preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of building automation systems (BAS)
    and their integration with lighting, HVAC, and alarm systems.
  • Experience interpreting and working with construction design
    plans and technical specifications related to energy systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with contractors,
    engineers, and internal stakeholders to meet project goals and ensure
    compliance with institutional standards.
