At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.

At Blue Origin, our mission is to enable a future where millions of people are living and working in space. The Product Formulation team is a fast-paced, innovative group developing next-generation aerospace products and shaping core capabilities for the future of spaceflight. We prioritize a prototype-first, fail-fast approach focused on tangible results and rapid technology maturation. As an Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) Engineer specializing in photovoltaic solar power modules and deployable in-space structures, you will play a mission-critical role in integrating and qualifying new spacecraft subsystems-ranging from large solar arrays to advanced antennas.

Responsibilities:

As the AI&T Engineer III, you will own the planning, coordination, and execution of assembly, integration, and test activities for cutting-edge solar power modules and deployable structural systems. You will partner closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure new hardware meets rigorous requirements for in-space performance and reliability. Your role will include developing detailed AI&T strategies, preparing and managing test plans and hardware, leadingtest campaigns, resolving anomalies, and ensuring flight readiness through careful execution and documentation. Beyond technical execution, you will mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of safety, quality, and technical excellence across the team.

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive AI&T strategies, plans, and procedures for photovoltaic solar power modules and large deployable in-space structures (arrays, antennas).

  • Collaborate with design, systems, materials and process, and manufacturing engineers to define and verify requirements, integrate test and operability features, and develop efficient assembly and test flows.

  • Serve as the AI&T test lead with full responsibility for test execution, ensuring personnel and hardware safety, and overseeing cross-functional teams.

  • Develop and manage test equipment and ground support equipment (GSE), including automation tools and test software, to support integration and verification of advanced structures and modules.

  • Create and maintain detailed test plans, procedures, and test reports in support of acceptance, qualification, and flight certification, covering thermal-vacuum, vibration, acoustic, shock, leak/pressure, mechanical, and system-level functional tests.

  • Drive the resolution of integration and test anomalies through root cause investigation and corrective action implementation, providingrobust engineering solutions.

  • Apply advanced knowledge of astronautical, mechanical, and structural systems to ensure integrated modules and deployable structures meet or exceed spaceflight requirements.

  • Champion safety and compliance in planning and execution, especially for large deployable and high-power systems.

  • Support on-site launch operations, ensuring all hardware is properly integrated, tested, and validated for flight at test and launch facilities.

  • Train, guide, and mentor junior engineers and technicians on AI&T procedures, documentation standards, and best practices.

  • Document all activities in accordance with aerospace quality management systems, supporting smooth handover to manufacturing and flight operations.

  • Intermittent travel to test sites will be required (10%+)

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or another relevant technical discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in the assembly, integration, and/or test (AI&T) of spacecraft hardware, aerospace systems, or other complex electro-mechanical systems.

  • Proven track record participating in or leading major subsystem or vehicle-level test campaigns, including acceptance, qualification, and flight readiness testing.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and execute detailed test plans, procedures, and reports for environmental, mechanical, structural, and system-level verification.

  • experience collaborating with design and systems teams to integrate test features and requirements into hardware design and architecture.

  • Proficiency in developing, operating, and maintaining test and ground support equipment (GSE), and familiarity with automation tools or basic scripting for testing operations.

  • Hands-on experience supporting or leading the assembly and integration of deployable in-space structures (arrays, antennas) and/or photovoltaic power modules.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of team guidance, technical reporting, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Dedication to safety, quality, and process discipline in all technical activities.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience with AI&T for large-scale deployable in-space structures or photovoltaic modules, including in student teams, internships, or industry roles.

  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Python or similar) for test automation and data analysis.

  • Experience leading anomaly investigations using root cause and corrective action methods.

  • Knowledge of system lifecycle, from requirements definition through test planning, execution, and data analysis.

  • Familiarity with requirements and configuration management tools (e.g., DOORS, Cameo, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Windchill, Creo).

  • Background supporting spaceflight hardware at launch or test sites, including coordination of logistics and hands-on integration.

  • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, or lead small technical teams.

  • Proven passion for innovative problem solving and advancing the state of the art in space.
