Title: Protection and Control Engineer (Varies) Hiring Manager: Javier F Morales Recruiter: Douglas W Mcdonald This position will be open to Internal TECO team members for a minimum of 7 days from the date posted. A minimum classification of an Engineer I is required in this position. POSITION CONCEPT Provides engineering and operations support for substation protection and control. Additionally, provides relay settings consulting and guidance relating to distribution substation protection. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RELATIONSHIPS Key Internal: All Electric Delivery departments, including Substation Operations, System Security, Project Management, Accounting, Purchasing, Planning, and Energy Supply. Key External: Maintain frequent contact with other utility and industry personnel, vendors and participate in relevant professional organizations (i.e. IEEE PES PSRC & Substations Committee) as budgets permit. SUPERVISION Direct: None Indirect: May provide guidance, training, and consult as relay engineering specialist to other P&C engineers on substation relaying schemes and calculations. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Engineer I - Minimum 18 months of experience or 12 months experience with an FE Engineer II - Minimum 4 years of experience Senior Engineer - Minimum 8 years of experience and eligibility to become a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida. Education Required: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program Licenses/Certifications Required: Eligible to obtain an FE in the State of Florida and must obtain within the first 2 years of employment Preferred: Professional Engineering License in the State of Florida Related Experience: Required: Minimum of 2 years of experience in power system engineering and operations. Supervisory Experience Required: None Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Must have sound knowledge of or basis to learn protection and control systems to interpret Substation and manufacturer's drawings and to be able to independently evaluate and modify system designs. Preferred: The ability to manage individual researcher or staff specialist responsibilities and to conduct, coordinate, and supervise complex engineering studies and reports. The ability to assist in training, orientation, work assignments and supervision of other employees. Leadership Competencies
WORKING CONDITIONS Most work is in an office environment however field work within substations or in the equipment yard to gather data, work with crews, etc. may be required. Some overtime and/or weekend work may be necessary. Rotational on-call duties are required for one week at a time. Support major storm restorations by conducting field assessments of TEC substations and identifying required repairs. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS Working in substations requires walking on uneven surfaces (granite rock, limestone roadways and grass areas). TECO offers a competitive Benefits package!!
