Summary

Oconee Nuclear Station is seeking and entry level Engineer I or Engineer II engineering individual. The selected candidate will support Duke Energy's Oconee Nuclear Station located in Seneca, South Carolina. An individual interested in electric motors and motor operated valves is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the site Subject Matter Expert for assigned components
  • Monitoring and trending system & component performance
  • Interfacing with offsite refurbishment vendors to ensure technical requirements are properly implemented and repair issues are resolved.
  • Directing troubleshooting activities for emergent component issues
  • Coordinating cross-functionally with other departments (such as Design, Maintenance & Operations) to ensure concerns, schedules, budgeting, and related issues are properly addressed.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance is maintained per NRC & industry standards.
  • Ensuring Fleet Operating Experience and industry learnings are leveraged to improve component performance.
  • Evaluating preventative maintenance (PM) program performance and recommending performance-based adjustments
  • Analyzing vibration signatures to assess component health
  • Additional engineering responsibilities may be assigned based on team needs and individual experience.

Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Nuclear Engineer I

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience

Nuclear Engineer II

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • A Master 's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • 2-4 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • (2) years of utility or nuclear engineering experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Experience with large industrial Motors and related program management
  • Experience with Limitorque Motor Operated Valves, Air Operated Valves or check valves and related program management.
  • Experience with Cause Analysis and Component Failure Investigations
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training
  • Proficient in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.

Specific Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
  • In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
  • Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
  • Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition.
  • This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
  • Occasional work during nights and weekends or extended workdays may be necessary to support nuclear regulatory compliance, unit outages, or emergent equipment issues.

  • Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to Oconee Nuclear Station
