Position Summary:

The Director of Alumni Engagement serves as a leader within the Office of University Advancement - Alumni Engagement, providing bold, visionary leadership to foster lifelong, meaningful connections between the University and its alumni community. This role is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive engagement strategy that aligns with institutional priorities and fosters a culture of alumni loyalty, advocacy, and philanthropy.

This dynamic leader will oversee signature alumni initiatives and experiences, cultivate strategic partnerships, and mobilize alumni as ambassadors, volunteers, and contributors to the University's mission. A skilled relationship builder, the Director will strengthen networks across generations, industries, and geographies, elevating alumni engagement as a vital driver of institutional excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision (25%)

  • Develop and execute a multi-year alumni engagement strategy that supports the University's advancement goals and deepens alumni affinity.

  • Leverage alumni engagement to advance institutional priorities, from enrollment and reputation to career outcomes and philanthropic investment.

  • Serve as a thought partner to leadership, contributing insights and recommendations based on alumni perspectives and trends.

  • Strategize key performance metrics for assessing engagement strategies and programs.

Relationship & Portfolio Management and Volunteer Leadership (20%)

  • Identify, recruit, and steward alumni volunteers, ambassadors, and event committees, fostering their leadership and participation in university life.

  • Serve as a liaison to alumni volunteers, providing support and strategic guidance.

Alumni Engagement & Experience (20%)

  • Lead the design and execution of innovative, mission-aligned alumni programming-including signature programs, milestone & affinity reunions, recognition ceremonies, professional networking events, corporate workplace events, and all other alumni engagement events.

  • Ensure offerings reflective of the alumni body and foster a sense of belonging and pride in GSU.

Team Leadership & Development (15%)

  • Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and performance management to the Alumni Engagement team.

  • Build a high-performing and collaborative team culture grounded in accountability, creativity, and results.

  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and continuous development to build staff capacity and expertise.

Assessment, Analytics & Insights (10%)

  • Establish and utilize data-driven approaches to measure program effectiveness, track engagement, and pinpoint areas for improvement.

  • Manage event and alumni engagement data using the University's CRM and event management tools.

  • Prepare regular reports and presentations to leadership on engagement outcomes and strategies.

  • Conduct regular assessments and reporting to guide strategic planning, demonstrate impact, and identify new opportunities.

Cross-Campus & External Partnerships (10%)

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the University, including Advancement, Government Relations, Academic Colleges, Career Services, Legal Affairs, and Student Success, to align alumni initiatives with institutional priorities.

  • Coordinate with Marketing and Communications to develop and implement effective communication strategies and plans.

  • Work closely with the University's advancement team to align alumni engagement with fundraising, stewardship, and donor relations efforts.

  • Engage with internal and external networks to strengthen alumni engagement strategies and best practices.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in a related field and six years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

  • High emotional intelligence with a relationship-centered leadership style.
  • Visionary thinking balanced with strong operational execution.
  • A passion for education, institutional mission, and lifelong learning.
  • Experience working in or with public higher education systems.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of serving an urban, commuter-based, or non-traditional alumni population
  • Experience managing volunteers.
  • Creative, adaptable, and solutions-oriented with a strong service mindset.
