Requisition Id15180 Overview: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a strong background in spin-based quantum sensing phenomena. In this role, you will conduct research at the intersection of quantum information science and fundamental materials physics. The research program focuses on understanding the fundamental limits of spin-based quantum sensors as probes of magnetic and superconducting behavior, utilizing NV centers in diamond and spin defects in 2D materials in variable-magnetic-field cryogenic environments. The candidate will leverage single- and ensemble-spin based sensors at temperatures of 50 mK-350 K and at fields of up to 15 T with emphasis on the development of new sensing protocols optimized for high-field and low temperature environments. In addition, these sensors will be deployed as probes of spin fluctuations near criticality in quantum magnets and unconventional superconductors. You will collaborate with a team that includes experts in thin film and single crystal materials growth and characterization, condensed matter theorists, and experts in quantum sensing. This position resides in the Quantum Heterostructures Group, Materials Science and Technology (MST) Division, Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
