HX5 is currently seeking a qualified Network Boundary Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Network Boundary Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of our enterprise network perimeter infrastructure, with a strong focus on security and reliability. This role requires a deep understanding of networking principles, routing protocols, firewalls, and web application traffic patterns. The ideal candidate will be a customer-focused individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain network perimeter infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and other network devices.
  • Configure and troubleshoot network routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
  • Plan, configure, and maintain firewall infrastructure.
  • Monitor network performance and identify areas for improvement at the network edge.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and provide timely resolution related to perimeter devices.
  • Implement and maintain network security policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain PKI infrastructure.
  • Ensure network compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to support business applications and services.
  • Document network configurations and procedures.
  • Role may involve working in secure or classified environments, depending on organization.

Salary: This position is expected to pay $100,000 - $130,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience:
    • HS Diploma (or GED) and eight (8) years of general experience
    • Associate's degree and six (6) years of general experience
    • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of general experience
    • Master's degree and two (2) years of general experience
  • Must have five (5) years of directly related.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in enterprise routing and switching.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in firewall planning, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Must have working experience AND an understanding of the OSI model and IP protocol stack.
  • Must have experience working with network switching and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) as they pertain to Netscalers, Cisco, Citrix, and Firepower.
  • Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, etc.)
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Desired Requirements:

  • Have experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls preferred.
  • Have experience with application load balancers (NetScaler, F5) preferred.
  • Have a strong understanding of PKI infrastructure.
  • Have a strong understanding of security, audit, and compliance principles.
  • Have a strong understanding of Domain Name System (DNS).
  • Have a strong understanding of web applications and traffic patterns.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday during core business hours. May require on-call support and occasional off-hours work for maintenance or incident response.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Must be able to have or obtain the required level of clearance by date of hire.
  • Must be able to travel, including air travel up to 10%.
  • Must have a valid Drivers License.
