The Adolescent and Young Adult Child and Family Life Specialist will work with the interdisciplinary team to provide clinical life services to the adolescent and young adult oncology patient population and family members. As an integral member of the health care team, a Child Life Specialist facilitates Child Life services for Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) oncology patients as well as their families on both inpatient and outpatient settings, provides instruction and supervision to volunteers and student employees and interprets the Child Life philosophy to the hospital community. This position will provide supervision of clinical/technical health services, clinical care coordination, clinical education of health professionals, and/or patient care to assure the effective and efficient delivery of health/dental care and health professions education.Positions in this family typically require a license and /or certification in a health care specialty.These health care professional exercise technical expertise in a specialized field to function as care coordinators and /or clinical educators of staff, students and residents in the health professions, and/or supervise staff that provide these services, or perform as a licensed and/or certified care provider.Does not include positions whose primary focus is health operations management or clinical research. Job Duties: - Establish new patient programming and support that specifically targets the adolescent and young adult oncology population and is based on evidence-based standards - Within the professional discipline and according to the age and condition of the patient, assess and provide clinical care to the adolescent and young adult oncology population, including family members with special consideration for children of adult patients. - Provide opportunities for and facilitate a variety of activities and interventions that promote development, self-expression and mastery of the medical experience. - Assure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. - Participate with the multidisciplinary team to continuously. o Assess patients' and families' emotional and psychosocial needs o Provide targeted interventions to meet identified needs o Evaluate impact of services and achievement of desired outcomes - Document in the EMR care provided to patients and families according to Child Life program standards Work Schedule: Monday - Friday up 20 hours/week Pay: TBD based on experience Background check and references will be required Required Qualification: - Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, Child and Family Studies or related degree. - Certification as a Certified Child Life Specialist - 2-3 years' experience as a child life specialist in a hospital setting. - Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Desired Qualifications: - Master's degree in Child Life or related field. - Demonstrated experience with program/service development. - Demonstrated excellent organizational skills. - Experience as a Child Life Specialist in the Hematology/Oncology patient and family population. - Experience working with the young adult population, typically ages 13-31. |
