The Department of Dental Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Dental Hygienist to work in our Special Needs clinic. Under general supervision of a Dental Services Dentist, assesses patients at the Novitski Dental Clinic, Residency Clinic, CDS, and other clinics as assigned. Plans and delivers direct dental care and associated services to special needs patients. Utilizes established dental hygiene and procedures. This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico

This position is to support the special needs dental clinic.

Minimum $75,670 - Midpoint $96,439*

*Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

*Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

Summary:

Under general supervision of a qualified Dentist in an ambulatory care setting, assesses patient needs, and plans and delivers direct dental care and associated services to patients. Utilizes established dental hygiene protocol and procedures.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Dental Hygienist:

Associate's degree; no previous work experience required. Current licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the State of New Mexico. Current BLS certification. Verification of education and licensure will be required if selected for hire.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Dental Hygienist:



  1. Assesses dental condition and needs of patient; uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting; takes patient vital signs as required.
  2. Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygienist procedures; performs routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides, and related procedures.
  3. Develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients; performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
  4. Provides chair-side assistance to dentist in the performance of special tests, procedures, and complex treatments.
  5. Makes impressions of patients' teeth for study casts.
  6. Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow up on results.
  7. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.
  8. Performs patient triage and initiates patient care as appropriate for walk-in patients.
  9. Assists in preparation of patient care areas, and in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process, as required; prepares reports and assists as required with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties.

Camino de Salud Residency Clinic and Faculty Practice:

Services are provided by dental school graduates. Experienced dental faculty oversee your care, including care for medically complex patients. Available services include cosmetic, implant and sedation dentistry, as well as oral surgery and teeth whitening.

Camino de Salud Ambulatory Surgical Center:

This state-of-the-art surgical center is staffed by an experienced team of dental and nursing professionals. Appointments are by referral only. We treat a wide range of patients, including children and patients with extensive dental needs.
