  • Completion of a BS in Chemical Engineering, Biological, Physical or Applied Science
  • At least 2 years of directly related experience
  • Good problem identification and resolution skills with emphasis on "root cause" analysis
  • Good business and/or technical expertise in a related capacity

  • Good verbal and written communications
  • Familiarity with EPA, NRC, OSHA, and other national, state, or local regulatory agency requirements

  • Perform physical/mechanical, chemical and/or radiographic analysis on materials, products, components, etc., using various laboratory equipment and instruments and performs quality checks and data summaries.
  • Specifically, performs work using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and Backscatter Electron (BSE) Spectroscopy capabilities.
  • Prepare and analyze samples utilizing established laboratory practices and documented procedures for SEM/EDS analysis, such as, mounting and polishing samples for examination as well as other sample preparations including acid digestion and dilution preparations.
  • Receives samples and inputs information and test requests into system database.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment. Troubleshoot complex test machines and equipment. Keep lab equipment, supplies and work areas clean and organized.

As a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Technician in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Installed Base Business Unit. You will be working in a team environment performing analytical chemistry assignments and sample production tasks using state-of art lab equipment serving the nuclear plant market. Your work will include:



  • Performing routine laboratory tasks or complex tasks under the direction of a chemist
  • Recording and reporting results
  • Following standard operating procedures
  • Aiding to ensure quality results that are produced safely
  • May be required to work with and around radioactive/corrosive chemicals and must wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as required

Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $75,000 - $97,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
