Brown and Caldwell is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our data and analytics team. This role will help oversee the development and maintenance of the company's data architecture. The role will work with data engineers to ensure the scalability and reliability of data systems. The role's responsibilities will include defining data standards, creating data models, and optimizing data storage solutions. The role will also collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide technical guidance. This role will report to the Director of Data and Analytics.

Job Responsibilities & Expectations:



  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of environmental engineers, data scientists, and software developers to understand data requirements and develop scalable data solutions for large/complex projects across the company.


  • Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines to collect, clean, transform, and load data from various sources, including sensor data, historical records, and geospatial information.


  • Create and manage data warehouses, data lakes, and databases to ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and management.


  • Develop and deploy ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to support data analysis, visualization, and machine learning model training on large/complex projects.


  • Assist in the development of data quality and data governance processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data.


  • Collaborate with IT teams to optimize data infrastructure, performance, and security.


  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in data engineering and environmental engineering to drive continuous improvement in BC's data engineering service offering.


  • Lead efforts to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues that may impact the company's operations or strategy.


  • Manage SQL database operations for high-value projects, including performance tuning, data migration, and querying.


  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.


Desired Skills and Experience:



  • Excellent understanding of and demonstrated capabilities with data engineering, data modeling, database management, and data warehousing concepts as applied to multiple projects.


  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases.


  • Skilled in designing, implementing, managing and optimizing ETL processes and pipelines.


  • Highly skilled in Python and other relevant data-related languages and tools.
  • Strong comprehension of data quality, governance standards, and big data principles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with best practices for writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code while applying software engineering best practices including use of version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Typically, a minimum of 6 years of data engineering or related experience.
  • A degree in data engineering, computer science, information technology, or related field or equivalent experience is required.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: Salary $118,000 - $161,000

Location B: Salary $130,000 - $177,000

Location C: Salary $142,000 - $194,000
