Overview
The Residential Quality Control Manager is responsible for ensuring that Residential Banking remains compliant with regulators, investors, and stakeholders. This position plays a key role in managing a team that monitors all aspects of the Residential Banking process, including pre-funding and underwriting quality control functions. The manager tracks loan quality trends, oversees fraud detection, and ensures adherence to regulatory and investor guidelines. The role provides the executive team with timely reporting, analytics, and investor and regulatory updates that drive continuous operational improvements and risk mitigation essential to maintaining compliance and loan quality. Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage the pre-funding and underwriting quality control (QC) process, shaping critical decisions through thorough review and analysis to ensure compliance and loan quality.
Track, analyze, and report on loan quality trends and findings, providing insightful data that informs risk mitigation strategies and process enhancements. Continuously monitor the regulatory and investor landscape, thoughtfully updating QC processes as needed to align with evolving requirements and best practices. - Serve as the Line of Business (LOB) owner responsible for monitoring and ensuring:
Oversee adherence to requirements set forth by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and other investors, driving compliance strategies that mitigate regulatory risk. Identify, investigate, and correct loan defects proactively to prevent repurchase demands or indemnifications, directly impacting financial and reputational risk. Lead efforts to uncover potential fraud or misrepresentation within loan files, borrower documentation, and appraisals through diligent and thoughtful review. Provide constructive feedback and recommendations that enhance underwriting, processing, and closing procedures, fostering continuous improvement in operations. Monitor and mitigate risks associated with loan origination, documentation, and approval, applying sound judgment and analysis to safeguard the organization. Identify error trends and root causes to develop targeted training programs and policy updates, strengthening team capabilities and promoting compliance.
Qualifications
- 8-10 years experience in residential mortgage quality control audit.
- 5-7 years expereince experience managing quality control (QC) processes and leading teams.
- Deep understanding of regulatory and investor requirements
- Knowledge of building of LOB wide processes and procedures
- Knowledge of collateral control, loan servicing requirements, compliance and secondary markets.
- Basic knowledge of related compliance regulations such as RESPA, Fair Lending, HMDA, etc.
- Basic knowledge of Bank operations, products and services; related state and federal laws and regulations, and other Bank operational policies and procedures.
- Able to manage high volume of activity and maintain production goals.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Industry related education a plus.
- Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Real Estate or related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
